Lord, while I pray that you enjoyed that worship with Steven Montazuma, I now want to get to the lesson: the four obstacles to healing. These are, categorically speaking, four obstacles that will prevent you from receiving the healing that God wants to give you. Before I really delve into the details of this lesson, I must preface it by acknowledging that this is, in fact, a very sensitive topic for many reasons, which are likely obvious to you. One of the things I was most concerned about was coming off as presumptuous when dealing with such sensitive issues. Therefore, I want to preface this by saying a couple of things.

Number one, I believe that any doctrine that does not account for or consider the sovereignty of God is a very dangerous doctrine. Even though I make bold proclamations regarding healing, the covenant of healing, or concerning God’s will to heal, I admit I have a very extreme view on this. Personally, I am someone who will never preach that it is not God’s will to heal. That is just my own conviction. I can’t specifically say that I would consider others wrong for not preaching that; however, I see my job as an evangelist to preach salvation to the lost and healing to the sick. It is up to God what He wants to do in response to the message that I preach. But as far as what my declaration will be, it is based on what I see in Scripture, and I believe that it is God’s will to heal. I do not apologize for that, nor will I waver from it. I am not even willing to debate it unless someone can come with Scripture and genuinely demonstrate otherwise.

Now, having said that, I want to be sensitive to those of you facing sickness in your own lives, as well as those who have a loved one who is sick and may not be seeing the results you think you should. So, before I say anything further, I wanted to acknowledge that this is indeed a very sensitive topic. I also want to acknowledge that there are, in fact, many views on this subject. The other point I want to discuss is that we must learn to interpret truth not necessarily by our experience but by what the Word of God tells us. For example, I have often spoken with individuals who say, «Well, I sought God with all my heart, and He didn’t respond.» However, Scripture says, «Let God be true, and every man a liar.» Jeremiah 29, I think it’s verse 11 or 13, states, «If you seek Me with all your heart, you will find Me.» God has promised that anyone who seeks Him with all their heart will find Him. Therefore, when someone approaches me saying, «I sought God with all my heart and didn’t find Him, ” it is not because God didn’t tell the truth; it is because that person did not genuinely seek God with all their heart as they believed they did.

Now, again, that isn’t specifically about healing, but it’s an example of what I mean when I say that we should interpret truth not through our experiences but through the Word of God. We must make room for God’s sovereignty, and we must be open to His wisdom. I can honestly tell you that we will never fully understand everything that God is doing, at least as far as what we can perceive on Earth. The Scripture does not necessarily promise understanding about every detail, but it does speak of a fullness and maturity that comes when we move into the eternal realm. So, first of all, I acknowledge this is a sensitive topic. Secondly, we must acknowledge God’s sovereignty. Thirdly, we have to learn to interpret Scripture through scriptural truth rather than solely our experiences.

If you are listening to this, it is not my intention to discourage anyone. It is not my aim to imply that anyone is not spiritual enough to be healed. On the contrary, I don’t believe healing has to do with being spiritual, but there are indeed other obstacles. When it comes to the question of why some are not healed, I will be honest with you: I personally believe that it is God’s will to heal every time. However, for the times when it does not happen, I must admit that the Scripture does not provide specific details on this. Therefore, I have to conclude, though I normally provide specific answers to such questions, that I can share my opinion, but the Scripture allows for the sovereignty of God. I cannot account for every instance, and I will not pretend that I can. Maybe someday, down the line, I will have studied Scripture even more and come to a firmer grasp on this topic. But for now, we must accept that the answer to some of our questions is that we simply need to trust God. If you are watching this and believing God for healing in your body, or if you have a loved one who died because they did not receive healing, I want to encourage you that the Bible does promise healing.
