David Diga Hernandez - Signs of Demonic Possession - Part 1
Hello, this is David Diga Hernandez, and you are watching Spirit Church here on the Encounter TV network. I want to talk to you today about something that is rarely discussed anymore, even in the church. This subject is all too often ignored, but I want to tell you the truth: demons are real. Demons still exist. They are not analogies for evil; they are not figments of superstition. Demonic beings actually exist, and they are filled with hate—hate that is aimed at God’s beloved creation. Demonic beings still possess people to this day. So, I want to show you from Scripture how to identify the demon-possessed so that you might minister freedom and deliverance to them. But first, Stephen Moctezuma is here with me; he’s going to lead you in some worship. Prepare your heart, and then we’ll get right into this message.
So, I want to begin this message by first stating that when we discuss the demonic, we must avoid superstition, particularly what I refer to as charismatic superstition, especially surrounding this subject. There is a lot of misinformation circulating all over the Internet. We live in an age where conspiracy theories rise to the top simply because they are sensational. However, we cannot become superstitious; we must be Spirit-led. We cannot rely on hearsay, old wives' tales, or human observation and experience. We must depend on what the Scripture tells us concerning these subjects. So, when I discuss demon possession, it’s important that we put aside superstition. No, you are not going to become demon-possessed if you accidentally click on the wrong website. No, you are not going to pick up a demon if you brush shoulders with someone who is demon-possessed, regardless of whether you prayed that day. We must avoid that nonsense that breeds paranoia. If you live in fear or paranoia, you are not living in truth; you are living in superstition. As I stated before, we must return to biblical truths so that we may be grounded as we approach these subjects. We must not venture into the weird and bizarre world of paranoia and superstition.
Now, having said that, we must also refrain from obsessing over specifics. Whenever I talk about the demonic, people tend to interject, «Oh, you forgot to mention this,» or «You forgot to discuss that.» «Don’t forget, Brother David, demons can enter through video games!» «Don’t forget, Brother David, demons can enter through certain types of relationships, sounds, songs, or cultural acts.» Whatever you may have been taught on the subject, I assure you of this: the only truth that can be relied upon is the Word. The reason I’m adopting such a combative approach is not because I’m combating people; it’s because I’m challenging an ideology that will prevent you from achieving a true understanding of spiritual warfare and the demonic.
Now, I have a lot of teaching available on the demonic, but for this particular message, I will focus solely on how to identify the demonically possessed. I’m not going to discuss how to cast them out, who becomes demon-possessed, or particular open doors. Right now, I specifically want to talk about how to identify a demonically possessed person. It is crucial that we realize not all signs I’m giving you are definite indicators. For example, one sign I will present today concerning demonic possession is morbid thinking; in other words, an obsession with death, darkness, and similar themes. Now, someone may exhibit morbid thinking, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the only clue we need to demonstrate that they are, in fact, demon-possessed. These are just clues; they are not an all-encompassing indication. So, not all signs are definitive, and not every case will display all the signs, so it is important to make that distinction.
Before I begin to delve into the Scripture—by the way, I’ll be in Mark chapter 5—I want to share a story. This very peculiar incident took place in the Midwest, where I was ministering at a youth service. The power of the Holy Spirit moved so tremendously that people did not want to leave the building until 1:00 in the morning. I’m not suggesting that this was coordinated or that it was a type of service where God was moving, so you better respect it and stay. It wasn’t like that at all; we didn’t even realize what time it was. We were simply so captivated by the presence of God that nobody pointed it out or encouraged people to stay; they just remained because no one wanted to go home. We were all unaware that we had gone well past our time, and it was around 1:00 in the morning.
As I was going down this prayer line, praying for different people, I made eye contact with one girl standing in front of me. She was looking at me, and something in me sensed that this girl was demon-possessed. As soon as I made eye contact, I saw in her a manifestation of hate, darkness, and demonic influence. I felt a boldness rise within me, and I said that this girl has a demon in her. I turned to one of the youth leaders and expressed my conviction, saying, «This girl has a demon in her.» I don’t even remember trying to be polite; it was simply a boldness that came over me. I reiterated, «This girl has a demon.» A lady next to me responded, «No, she can’t be demon-possessed; that’s one of our youth leaders!» I replied, «I don’t care who she is; this girl has a demon in her.»
As people began to gather around me, they said, «You know, Brother David, you’ve missed this one. No, no, this is a good girl!» However, as soon as they started trying to defend her, this girl began to laugh with a very sinister, loud, and maniacal laugh. She threw her head back, fell to the floor, and started slithering on the ground like a snake. She began to rise, move, hiss, and growl.
