David Diga Hernandez - The Power of Transfer: 3 Kinds of Impartation
Many believers understand the power of impartation, and today I want to talk to you about the three different kinds of impartation that will accelerate and increase the power of God in your life. As we delve into what the Scriptures say about this very important topic, I pray that you will become a believer who gives impartation, receives impartation, and shares impartation with your fellow believers.
Today, I want to talk to you about impartation, as I mentioned at the top of the program. This Spirit church study is going to be dedicated to three different types of impartation that the believer can participate in.
When I was about 11 or 12 years old, I was very hungry for the presence of the Holy Spirit. As I have often told you before, I would go from church to church. Granted, I was grounded in one specific home church, but I was still hungry to receive everything that God had for me. So, anytime there was a conference, a church service, or a miracle service, I would go, take notes, and read books. I was the one sitting in the front row, trying to stand out to the prophet so he would give me a word. This was truly my pursuit of everything that God had for me.
At about 14 years old, I was sitting in a church service in Whittier, California, when my friend, Prophet Robert Sanchez—who many of you know from this program—was speaking, although this was before Prophet Rob and I knew each other. I was engaged, watching the prophet give words to various people, and it seemed like they were having complete breakthroughs. You could tell by the looks on their faces and the tears streaming down that God was working profoundly in them. The prophet called me out and stood me up, and I was ready to receive from God. I thought, «Okay, Lord, whatever this prophet says, I’m going to believe it’s from You, and I’m going to receive the word.»
As many of you know, Prophet Rob is a gift, the prophet of the Lord. He started to prophesy over me, and the first thing he told me surprised me because I didn’t know a prophet could be so specific with his words of knowledge. He said, «You’re the type of kid who doesn’t even have to study for tests, yet you ace them and upset everyone in the class who has been studying.» My friend elbowed me and said, «Oh my gosh, that’s you!» I replied, «I know! How did he know that?» Then he started saying many other things that were very specific to my personality.
One thing that really stood out in my mind was his visualization of the spiritual realm. He began to talk about how bees pollinate, going from flower to flower, and he discussed the concept of cross-pollination. At 14 years old, I received one of the first impactful prophetic words of my life. The prophet told me, «You’re going to have a ministry that is cross-pollinated. In other words, you’ll receive from various types of ministries, and God will make a hybrid out of all of them; it will all be created in one ministry.»
I have found that to be true, and the reality is that not only does everyone you ever meet know something that you don’t know, but every believer you meet has most likely developed some character trait of Christ further than you. Some people might be more developed in their humility, while others might excel in their peace, joy, love for others, or ability to show mercy. These character traits within one another are the perfecting of Christ, and it is all of us together, as the collective believers, who begin to cross-pollinate. We start to impart to one another, and we rub off on each other. Whereas I might need help with doubt and faith, I may run into a believer who needs help in the same area, and perhaps I can assist them with humility, and vice versa.
We must recognize that when we receive from all kinds of anointings—not just from someone more anointed than we are—there are levels to the anointing. Scripture teaches that you can grow in the anointing, and anything from which you can grow has levels; otherwise, there’s no room for growth. Therefore, we must first acknowledge, in humility, that some people are further along on their spiritual journey than we are. I think of figures like Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and the disciples, and I speak about this type of receiving faith that can create within you a hybrid of those around you.
At that very young age of 14, when I received that prophetic word, I was very determined. I told myself I was going to observe and listen to the fiercely intellectual, the deeply spiritual, those who carry holy integrity, those who have a mind for teaching, those who have a gift for evangelism, those who have a grace for the prophetic anointing, and those who have the miraculous workings of miracles in their ministry. I’m going to pay attention to each and every one of them, and I’m going to do my best to glean from the best in every ministry. Therefore, in my own life, I will see an increase in the anointing, and this is God’s plan for the generations. God is not just a multicultural, multiracial God; He is a multi-generational God, and anything He does is all about the passing of His glory from one generation to the next. The closer you get to the end-time generation, the more perfect the church has become. This is why I believe that every generation of believers is to, in fact, be more anointed than the generation before them, be more powerful than the generation before them, and be more influential, along with all those other positive qualities that we seek to acquire in the church world. I think that with every generation, those things should grow. This type of impartation that I’m talking about has three kinds, and I’m going to discuss the first two quickly. Then I want to spend a little more time on the third because I think it’s the most insightful, at least in the scripture I have found.
Number one, the first kind of impartation is given impartation. Matthew 28:19 says this, and this is Jesus speaking: «Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.» Jesus is giving this command not just to those disciples who heard it when He spoke, but He offers that command to you today. Every believer has an obligation and a spiritual responsibility to disciple his fellow man and to disciple his fellow believer. You may say, «Well, I’m not really that far along in my walk,» or «I’m not really that advanced,» or «I’m not really that anointed or gifted.» The truth is that within you, God has deposited something of value. Maybe you’re just saved, just born again, and while I do acknowledge that scriptures such as those in Timothy give us qualities and traits to which we are to aspire if we’re going to meet the standards of a church leader, there is also a participation that every believer can have in world evangelism and world discipleship, no matter where they fall on the spectrum of spiritual growth.
So maybe you have come to a place in your spiritual walk with God where you just got saved; that’s okay! Now you know Jesus as Savior, and you can help guide those who have yet to come to Christ. The moment you receive Christ as Savior, you are qualified to evangelize your loved ones. So don’t ever get discouraged and tell yourself you’re not gifted in those areas, because as long as you’re further along than somebody else, you can help them get to where you are, even if it’s just one step ahead. Every believer has the responsibility to make disciples. You may say, «Okay, well I’m saved.» Therefore, you know Christ as Savior, so you can communicate the saving grace of Christ to the person who comes after you. Every single one of us is to participate in given impartation.
Now you notice Jesus mentions disciples; He does not talk about memberships. Your job is not to go and solicit for your church, though I believe in outreach and inviting people to church, as that is the greatest evangelistic tool in the world: the local church. I, myself, am part of a local church, and I’m planted under a pastor. But when it comes to this type of teaching, you must understand that membership is very different from discipleship. Everything that God does—when you look at plant life, fish, man, molecules, and cells—is all about multiplication. So God’s plan and agenda for the ages, as it pertains to world evangelism, is multiplication. This is why the enemy’s primary plan is division, because nothing destroys multiplication faster than division. We see here that being members is a matter of addition, but discipleship is a matter of multiplication. Membership is addition, while discipleship is multiplication. Why? Because only true followers of Christ can reproduce. If I look at a flower or plant created out of plastic, it may look and feel like the real thing. They even have some technology nowadays that can give it the scent of an actual plant. The problem is that plastic plant will never be real because it can never truly reproduce. So you can always tell the authentic believer by the fact that they are able to reproduce themselves. This is the act of discipleship. You are to teach, and everyone can teach because each of us knows something about the Lord. You are to live as an example, and it is that teaching and living that creates the impartation of giving. So when you’re giving an impartation, you’re helping those around you. Therefore, I want to emphasize that no matter where you are on the spectrum of spiritual growth, God has called you to impart something to someone, somewhere.
Number two: shared impartation. So we just talked about the first kind, given impartation. Number two is shared impartation. We just talked about number one, given impartation; number two is shared impartation. This refers to fellowship. The truth is that all of us can impart to someone below us, in terms of spiritual growth—not in value. All of us can share in impartation because many of us are on the same path of growth in our Christian lives, and we can share in impartation. This point is very important because it concerns fellowship. Before I discuss shared impartation, I want to emphasize this: just as you can impart good things, you can also impart negative things. There is such a thing as ungodly impartation. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, «Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for bad company corrupts good character.» This ungodly impartation does not come merely from spending time with sinners; after all, Jesus Himself spent time with the lowest of sinners. This type of ungodly impartation occurs when you allow yourself to be influenced by others instead of being the influence in their lives. Of course, we are to communicate with the lost; we are to have unsaved friends and spend time with family members who do not know Christ. We have to, otherwise how are we going to reach them? You cannot spread the gospel if you are quarantining it like it’s a disease, avoiding contact with anyone who doesn’t have it. You must treat the gospel as something that needs to be spread, and you must engage with the ungodly with love, respect, care, and honor, creating the bridge necessary for relationship. Relationship is the greatest means of evangelism.
I’m discussing the importance of allowing others to have an influence in your life. Have you ever noticed that the same spirit comes upon those with whom people hang out? You can take a good kid who grew up in an undesirable area, and by associating with those involved in gangs, violence, and similar activities, he ends up becoming just like them. He loses his sweet, innocent spirit and begins to exhibit anger, violence, entitlement, pride, and blindness, participating in the ungodly activities present in that environment. This is an example of ungodly impartation. So, we must be careful to avoid the influence of the ungodly—not to avoid contact with them. This is about working together. Now, God removes those from us who do not belong. The scripture states in Amos 3:3, «Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?» 1 John 2:19 says, «These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise, they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.» This working together, this cohesiveness, this unity creates a certain power and fosters within you a growth that you could not find elsewhere.
Consider all the scriptural commands about living peacefully with one another, about not gossiping about fellow church members, and about giving in unity with one another. A lot of these commands are impossible to fulfill unless you are attending a local church. I know some people may dislike this, but it’s the truth; you need to be in a local church. All legitimate ministries are connected with a local church. When we discuss this type of impartation through sharing, it is impossible to fulfill some of those commands unless you are plugged into a church. The writers of the Epistles operated under the assumption that their readers knew they were supposed to be in a church. Therefore, it is a very solid case. When we share in this impartation with one another, we can grow. Maybe you have found yourself disconnecting from certain groups. I am not referring to leaving in bitterness and unforgiveness; I mean being directed by God to another place, another ministry, another church. That sometimes happens. I know most pastors want to pretend that everyone saved in their church has to stay there for life, but that is not biblical. The truth is that God has called you somewhere, and as long as your heart is not filled with bitterness and you are genuinely following the leading of the Holy Spirit, you should have no worries about this. God will bring you to a certain stream in which you will have influence. I know I am personally attracted to certain ministries that emphasize the supernatural. I received my impartation, and if I named the people who imparted to me—whether through close relationships or from a distance—you would recognize their names. However, that’s not my main point, so I will not name them. My point is that God will bring you around certain people who share a similar spirit and carry similar giftings so that you can participate in a common goal: reaching people for Christ. In God’s great river of ministries, there are many streams. You can even tell by observation that there is a distinction—not a disconnect or dislike—between movements such as Hillsong and the Hope Movement, then Jesus Culture, the TBN crowd, and more. There are various types of ministries, including church growth ministries like Victory Outreach, Praise Chapel, and Calvary Chapel, and so forth.
