The Holy Spirit can accomplish more in a single moment than you or I could accomplish with 100 years of striving and carnal effort. The real power is found when we surrender; in our weakness, He is made strong. You might be facing something right now that makes you feel hopeless. In fact, in many parts of the world, people are encountering problems that seem like they have no solutions. Sometimes, the believer comes to a place in life where they feel like they have hit a brick wall, like they can’t move any further, like they’ve peaked. Maybe you’re a minister watching, and you’ve been praying repeatedly for God to bring breakthrough to your ministry, but even after all of your efforts and attempts, you’re not seeing the fruitfulness that the Lord has promised you. Or perhaps you’re someone, a believer maybe in business, who wants to fund things in the Kingdom, who wants to have resources to help spread the Gospel; yet time and time again, year after year, when you’ve said, «This is my year, ” it doesn’t turn out to be your year. In fact, how many of us believers go through those New Year cycles with those prophetic words: „This is the year, this is the year, this is the year, this is the year, ” only to be disappointed again and again? What do you do when you’ve done all you can do? What do you do when you’ve given every bit of effort that you have, exhausted yourself of all your emotion, all of your mental ability, all of your resources, and everything you know how to do? You’ve talked to every one of your contacts, knocked on every door, and prayed every prayer a thousand times over; you’ve applied every key principle and truth, and still, it seems that something is just not right, that the enemy is winning. It can seem that way sometimes, though we know that God is always victorious. It can seem like the enemy has an advantage. This is the situation that King Jehoshaphat found himself in when he was threatened by surrounding nations. Biblically speaking, this king was someone who obeyed the commands of God. Unlike many of his predecessors, he actually made efforts to bring the children of God back to worshiping the Lord and to turn the people of God away from idolatry. So, the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 20:1-7: „After this, the army of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat. Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, ‘A vast army from Edom is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea, and they are already at Hazazon-Tamar, ’ which was another name for En-Gedi. Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. So the people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help. Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the temple of the Lord. He prayed, ‘O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven; you are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you. O our God, did you not drive out those who lived in this land when your people Israel arrived? And did you not give this land forever to the descendants of your friend Abraham? ’“ Here, the king is calling upon the covenant; he’s bringing the Lord this claim on the word of God. Now, here I must emphasize that the Lord is not reluctant to keep His promises. That’s why He gave us His word. There is a theology out there that teaches that God is withholding from us, and that if we pray enough, fast enough, and enact the correct postures and protocols, somehow we will be able to twist God’s arm or convince Him to do something on our behalf. Who among us is persuasive enough to convince God, who knows all things? There’s no way we could convince God. Here, he’s not saying to the Lord, „Lord, remember the covenant, ” because he doesn’t think God will keep His word. He is acting on faith, belief, and trust in the promise that God had already made. It was because of the covenant and the promise that the people were to be protected, provided for, and favored; yet here they have these surrounding nations zeroing in on them, wanting to take them out. Have you ever had an enemy want to take you out? We know the Bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but it sure does seem that way sometimes, doesn’t it? It seems like people can be against us, and here is the wonderful truth: even when our enemies surround us, even when they come against us, even when everything looks impossible, even when there seems to be no way out in every direction we look—where we could say, „Oh, I’ve already tried that path, ” or „Oh, that doesn’t look like it will work, ” or „That looks impossible; there’s something blocking that way”—even in that situation, there’s a word that comes forth. So, there was the problem: surrounding nations attacking people who wanted to destroy them. And maybe there’s no one wanting to destroy you in the natural realm, but we all know we have an enemy who wants to destroy us in the spiritual realm, and we all face hardships and situations where we…
