What does it look like when the Holy Spirit endorses or backs a life for a ministry? I want to talk to you about the signature of the Holy Spirit. When someone signs a check, they’re using their signature, their authority, to release resources. What does the Holy Spirit’s signature or sign nature look like? How do you know that the Holy Spirit is backing a life, a ministry, or a message? Well, let’s take a look at the first signature of the Holy Spirit. He signs His message with miracles. Mark chapter 16, verse 20, says, «And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.» If you’re not getting miracles, it’s time to start preaching the Holy Spirit’s message. Remember this: God does not back our opinions, preferences, ideas, or philosophies. The Holy Spirit only backs the Word of God, and He backs His message with power.

Matthew 7 is an interesting portion of Scripture, right around verses 21 to 23, where the Scripture says, «Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord, Lord, ’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven; only those who actually do the will of my Father in Heaven will enter. On Judgment Day, many will say, ‘Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name, ’ but I will reply, ‘I never knew you; get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’» Now this is interesting because we see that there are individuals who are able to operate in power without having a right relationship with the Lord. One of the scariest truths you’ll ever learn from Scripture is the fact that God will use you even if He doesn’t know you. That’s terrifying indeed, but this proves to us that the Word of God is so powerful, so precious, and so important to the Holy Spirit that it is backed with power even when a hypocrite preaches it. Think about that: the Word of God is powerful even when a hypocrite preaches it.

So the Holy Spirit will always honor God’s Word. He will always endorse God’s Word. He will not anoint our opinions. He will not anoint our preferences. He will not anoint the philosophies of man and culture. The Holy Spirit will only back the Word of God; that’s how powerful the Word is, that’s how important it is. So the Holy Spirit signs His message with miracles and power.

Number two: The Holy Spirit signs His people with His presence. All believers have the Holy Spirit. First Corinthians 6:19 says, «Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.» Ephesians chapter 1, verses 13 and 14 confirm that the Holy Spirit is present with you and me at salvation: «And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the good news that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom He promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.» So the Holy Spirit is the seal of salvation; He’s the proof that you belong to God.

Now, the Holy Spirit will sign His message with miracles, but He will only sign His people with His presence. Only the people of God can carry the presence of God. Anyone can walk in God’s power to some degree if they’re preaching the Word. Anyone can walk in God’s power to some degree if God so chooses at any moment to use any individual for any purpose. But only the people of God can carry the presence of God. That’s what distinguishes us from everyone else. Well, that’s what Moses said, isn’t it? He said, «How will they know that we’re distinguished from any other nation if Your presence doesn’t go with us?» So the presence is what distinguishes you from the rest of the world. What a privilege and what an honor that we can carry the presence of the Holy Spirit, that God has marked us, consecrated us, and set us apart by saying, «These are my people, and I mark them; I signed them with My presence.»

You see, people can operate in gifts without knowing the glory. They can have the power without knowing the presence. They can preach the Word, and that Word will be backed with miracles and power. Why? Because God backs His Word. The Holy Spirit signs the message with miracles, but only those who are redeemed, only those who call Jesus Lord, only those who are truly saved and who actually follow the Lord as the Lord, those are the ones who carry the presence upon their lives, and those are the ones who are marked, distinguished by God’s presence. How you respond to the presence within you determines how evident that presence will be upon you. So we all have the presence of the Holy Spirit upon our lives; we all have the Holy Spirit within us if we are true believers. In fact, it’s not possible to be a true believer without having the Holy Spirit. So the two come hand in hand together: you receive the Holy Spirit the moment you are saved. However, the evidence of that presence upon your life is determined by how you surrender to the Word of God, how you surrender to the direction of the Holy Spirit, how you carry, how you steward, how you’re aware of, and how you honor that presence.
