Is it possible to become complacent in our walk with God? Absolutely. Unfortunately it is human nature to have great interest in something at the beginning, but to gradually lose interest over time. This might not be a fatal failure if it refers to a love of fishing or an interest in home decorating, but when it comes to your walk with God—this lack of attention can cause us to drift away. Think of a rowboat that is once tied to the dock, the tether becomes weathered and worn, and gradually the little boat starts to drift farther and farther from the dock where it was once safely moored. Who knows what challenges await the boat as it drifts farther out to sea? This analogy is true for us—we cannot allow ourselves to drift away from the God who is our place of safety.
