I want to talk in this final sermon of this series called «I’m Looking for Something» from the subject of family. I’m looking for a king; clap your hands at every location! I’m looking for a king. One of the roles and responsibilities of anyone occupying a seat of leadership is to operate as a C.R.O. You may be wondering, Pastor Darius, what do you mean when you say C.R.O.? I’m familiar with C.E.O., C.F.O., maybe even C.M.O. or C.S.O., but what is a C.R.O? A C.R.O. is simply a Chief Reminding Officer. This responsibility is important for all seats of leadership, but it is uniquely crucial for those in pastoral leadership. There will be seasons and situations where people are facing adversity, anxiety, and uncertainty, and the answer to their anxiety, adversity, and uncertainty is not always a revelation of something new. Sometimes, the answer to our adversity, anxiety, and uncertainty is a reminder of something old. This might be why Peter, who was in pastoral leadership, pens these words in 2 Peter 1:12: «For this reason, I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.» Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent or body, to stir you up—not by telling you something new, but by reminding you of something old. There are seasons when we are dealing with suffering and stress, and we are fighting for our sanity and spiritual stamina. In the middle of the fight, it’s easy to forget who is fighting for you, and every now and then, we need to be reminded of who is fighting for us. You need to be reminded, come here, that Jehovah Jireh—y’all aren’t talking to me today—is fighting for you. We need to be reminded that the same God who protected Daniel when he was in the lion’s den is the same God who will keep your lions from devouring you. Pastor, I don’t have any lions. You have some lions lying in wait, slandering you, talking negatively about you. But the same God who protected Daniel from his lions is the same God who will protect you from yours. Is there anybody in the room or at any location who will testify? He didn’t stop me from going into the lion’s den; I’m in the middle of lions, but He keeps me alive. Somebody praise Him because He’s keeping you in it! Some people only know how to praise Him when He’s keeping them from it, but I believe I have some Hebrew boy praisers. Hallelujah! See, if He doesn’t keep me from the fire, He’ll praise me in the fire. Sometimes, I need to be reminded that the God who helped David defeat Goliath with a rock is fighting for me. If He could help David defeat his giant with what he had in his hand, He can help you defeat your giant with what you have in your hand. Some might be complaining, saying, «This is all I have,» and God is looking at you, communicating, saying, «That’s all you need!» If you had needed more, He would have given you more. If you had needed something different, He would have given you something different. But we serve a God who will help you do it with what you’ve got. I don’t know what you have, but you and God are enough! Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Sometimes, the answer to our adversity, anxiety, and uncertainty is not a revelation of something new. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of something more. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of who God is. Then, there are other times we need to be reminded of what God said. We need to be reminded of Romans 8:28: «And we know that all things work together.» Did you hear what I just said? He didn’t say some things. He didn’t say most things. He said all things: the lion is working together, the betrayal is working together, the suffering is working together, and the rejection is working together. God will put all the ingredients of your adversity together in a bowl and work it for your good. Sometimes, we need to be reminded not just of who He is, but also of what He said, like in Isaiah 54:17: «No weapon formed against you shall prosper.» Wait a minute! And every tongue—y’all aren’t talking back to me—every tongue that rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn. You’re not going to condemn it by your words; you’ll condemn it by your walk. They’re judging you now, and you’re not going to have to condemn their judgment by what you say. What you do will speak for you. You ought to have two words for those who are judging you: keep watching! Hallelujah! Because if you keep watching, my success will speak for me, my survival will speak for me, and my recovery will show you that He is with me. «Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.» Why? Because Thou art with me. Sometimes, I need to be reminded of Isaiah 1:19: «If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.» Sometimes, I need to be reminded of Psalm 34:19: «Many are the afflictions of the righteous,» but don’t miss this: «The Lord,» whenever you see the word Lord in…
