Thank you to our praise and worship team for leading us in worship. I’m crazy grateful to see you tonight! We 're going to conclude our final lesson tonight on the foundational principles. If I’ve been tracking what I’ve been teaching correctly, and I believe I have, tonight we will focus on the final foundational principle that deals with eternal judgments. I know this may not be something that excites everyone, but I have many verses, and I recognize that you might not be able to keep up with me. So, please write down just two verses. I will try to read as minimally as possible, and you can reflect on them in your devotion later, because I know that you all go home to study and reread these things, right? Amen!
Let me begin with a definition of judgment. The word itself in Greek refers to making a decision, determining, or pronouncing a sentence or verdict, with the decision being the result of an investigation. When we talk about eternal judgments, it means that God will investigate your life: your actions, choices, behavior, words, thoughts, and motives. A judgment will ultimately be rendered concerning you based on that matter. This is why it is critical that we have a passion to win people to Jesus-because one day everyone will have to stand before God and give an account of the decisions and choices they made. Yes, I know you won’t say «Amen» on these points, but that’s a fact! So, we’re going to discuss who our judge is, what we will be judged for, whether Christians have to be judged, and what we will receive as a result of that judgment. This is what we’re going to research and discuss tonight.
Now, listen carefully. You must understand that a judgment involves making a decision to pronounce a sentence or verdict, and that decision results from an investigation. In reality, God knows everything about our lives, so there will be no error. The first sub-point here is that everyone will be judged by God. Hebrews 9: 27 says, «It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.» After we die, the next thing on the agenda is that we will be judged by God. Revelation 20: 12 states, «And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.»
Jude, the second- to — last book in the Bible, contains just one chapter. Verses 14 and 15 say, «Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, 'Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His Saints .' To execute judgment on all and to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds, which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.» Be careful what you say about Jesus, because you will be held accountable for it.
Romans 14: 12 reminds us, «So then each of us shall give account of himself to God .» Each of us will have to provide an account to God. Now, letter B under this points out that God has given all judgment to Christ. So, in terms of being judged, it will be given to the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be our ultimate judge concerning everything we do. What we do with Him matters. What you say about Him does matter, because ultimately when we stand before the judgment seat, He will be the one to whom we answer. John 5:22 states, «For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son.» Everything has been entrusted to Jesus so that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. «He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.» When you reject Jesus, you are rejecting the Father. Ultimately, God has assigned the task of judgment and making determinations into the hands of Jesus.
Acts 10: 42 tells us, «And He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be judge of the living and the dead.» He is the judge of everything. Romans 2: 16 states, «In the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.» Romans 14:10 asks, «But why do you judge your brother? Why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.» Ultimately, what this all conveys is that what you do with Jesus matters. In the world, people want to diminish the role of who Jesus is; they want to reject Him and claim there are multiple roads to heaven.
