Father, we thank You for Your loving kindness and Your tender mercies. Thank You for waking us up and giving us the activities of our limbs. We are so grateful and thankful, and I want to pray that You take these next few moments to speak to our hearts, Almighty God. In Jesus' name, Amen. Amen.
You can be seated. I didn’t come prepared to preach a whole sermon today; I wanted to take a few moments to highlight what I call two significant points. Tonight we are celebrating two significant things. We are, number one, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. We are celebrating the fact that God sent His Son into the world to give us a way out of our mess. These are two things I want you never to lose sight of. Let me read a passage to you real quick; just jot it down; you don’t have to look it up. I’m going to read it to you: 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 says this: «Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.» There are two things that we believe we should never forsake or forget, and one is the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. That 's what Christmas is all аbout: that God sent His Son through a virgin to be born. What is significant about that? The significance of the fact that He was born from a virgin is that His blood nature is different from ours. We have the blood of our father, and He has the blood-Jesus has the blood-of His Heavenly Father, which means that when He shed His blood on the cross, His blood could do for us what no human blood could do. Somebody say Amen right there. It’s a very significant point and an important message that this Jesus is not the product of two human beings; He is born through the supernatural provision of the Holy Spirit, who impregnated Mary, and she gave birth to Jesus. This is a significant truth we should never forget. It is the nature of God coming into the world and bringing the Son of God, who is a combination of both God and man. Somebody say, «He’s God and man.» God and man. He’s God and man. We find a Savior who can save us from our sins because we also believe in the fulfillment of the prophecy regarding Him. The prophets declared it, the Scriptures prophesied it, and it’s true; it came to pass, and we hold on to it. We hold fast to the fact that we believe that Jesus is everything He said He was, and that’s such an important thing. Why is that important? It’s important because some people say that He’s not God, but we believe He is God. He used terminology; He made statements that make us know that He is God, and you shall never forget that. And if He’s God, we are called to submit to His will and submit to His Word. We are called to be obedient to Him. So that’s — somebody said, «Look at your neighbor.» That 's the very first significant statement. That 's a little weak; let’s try that again. He is God in human form! It’s a very important point, and we hang our heads on that. Everything hangs on the fact that He is God. But it doesn’t stop there; that’s the first significant thing. The second thing we are here to celebrate tonight and participate in is the fact that this one human being, who was born both God and man, did something that nobody else has done: He went to the cross and died for our sins. And that, my brothers and sisters, is what communion is all about. It is a special acknowledgment; communion is a special acknowledgment that we recognize that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. It is our way of doing what He asked us to do. Communion is what Jesus asked us to do; He said, «As often as you eat this bread and drink of this cup, you remember My death until I come.» Ask your neighbor when the last time you’ve been to communion. Go ahead, ask! Y’all still talking? That must mean somebody is justifying why they haven 't been here in a while. That 's what Jesus said: «As often as you eat the bread and drink the cup, you are demonstrating that you are proclaiming and you believe and you are shouting about the fact that you believe that I died on the cross for your sins.» It ought to be on your calendar. Most of the year we only do it once a month-12 times a year. It ought to be on your calendar; you ought to be present. This is how we demonstrate that we put our faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Somebody look at your neighbor and say, «He’s worthy!» He’s worthy! Look at your neighbor on the other side and say, «He’s worthy!» He’s worthy to be praised. He’s worthy to be exalted. He’s worthy to be glorified. Matter of fact, He did what nobody else did. Not only did He die on the cross; here’s what He did: He got up out of the grave! He conquered death; He defeated death, and He rose from the dead! And we hang our heads on that. That 's what we believe!
