Keion Henderson - Help, I'm In Trouble

I want to take you to a scripture that you probably don’t read every day but should: Psalms 51: 8. In Psalms 51:8, the Bible says this is David in one of the most difficult moments of his entire life. He’s a king, but he’s in trouble. He has more square feet in his house than he can live in, but he’s in trouble. He has the most expensive mattress in all the land, but he’s in trouble. How many of you know you can have all this stuff and still be in trouble? You can have the best car and still be in trouble. He’s in trouble, and he says this: «Make me to hear joy and gladness .» What he’s saying is, «Lord, I can’t even figure out how to be happy. Can you just make me happy?» I need you to make me hear joy and gladness. «Listen, that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.» He’s in trouble, like he’s saying, «I’m fractured on the inside. I can’t figure out a way to heal. Lord, can you make me to hear what’s actually happening so that these bones- in one translation, says can dance again?»

I want to use for a subject today, and maybe you can help me preach it. If this fits where you are, I just want you to help me preach it. Just repeat after me: «Help, I’m in trouble.» That 's what I want to talk about today: «Help, I’m in trouble.» If anybody needs the Lord to help them, just make some noise in this place today. You may be seated in the presence of the Lord. «Help, I’m in trouble.» Psalms 51 is the individual lament or the expression of grief, which is the definition of the term, in which, in this reiteration of the scripture, a single voice-not a nation-not a chorus-just one person, David himself. He basically says, he cries out, and he says, «Lord, I need some deliverance because I can’t keep living my life on this track, this trajectory, with this even flow of emotions .» He says, «God, if you don’t do something for me, I don’t know what I’m going to do.» So he basically laments; he expresses his grief, and he says, «Lord, I’m in trouble. This situation is causing me anxiety. The situation is causing me to lose sleep. This situation is causing me to doubt myself. This situation is causing me to look in the mirror and not be sure if the promises that you have made are for me.» Has anybody ever been in that situation?

Let me tell you why he feels that way: because a lot of times, we look at life in that situation and we say, «God, what are you doing to me?» But here’s the truth: David feels this way because of a decision he made. What is happening right now is he’s dealing with the consequences of the decision he made to sleep with Bathsheba. He 's dealing now with the consequences of the decision he made when it could have been over after he slept with Bathsheba, and everything could have been good. But in order to hide it, he got her husband, Uriah, killed. And now everybody in the church, everybody in the apartment complex, everybody in the city, and everybody on Instagram knows what David did. Yeah, it’s one thing when you do something and you think you got away with it; there aren 't any tears about what you think nobody knows. But once you make that decision and other people find out, how many of you will be honest in here? It ain’t easy to get over stuff that people won’t let you get over. Come on, talk to me now!

God is a forgiver, but people aren 't. You know God will love you again, but people will make you struggle and suffer, and they’ll keep you in the place where they left you. And so now he’s embarrassed. Has anybody ever been embarrassed before? Because see, this message isn 't for the people who think the devil was the issue; this message is for the people who said, «I chose it, and I need God to get me out of it.» Where are all the honest people in here today? If you approach this sermon from the fact that God has to deal with the devil because you didn’t do anything wrong, you’re going to miss the whole message. He’s here because of what he did. But what if I told you that God doesn’t care about what you did? He cares about what He’s getting ready to do through you.

And he says, «God, I’m embarrassed. I made this mistake.» Here 's what I love about David: David is not the kind of person who makes a mistake and then actually forgets it was his mistake and starts living like he made the right decision. Have you ever seen somebody make a mistake, and then they live the rest of their life like they didn’t make the mistake, and then they get upset about all the consequences that came as a result? David says, «I’m embarrassed. I did it. I slept with somebody who wasn’t my wife. I got her husband killed, and by the way, I got her pregnant.» Yeah, y’all listen. Do me a favor: tell all your little innocent people to go to sleep. Go to sleep! I’m going to talk to you online today because I figure I got this crowd; all they wanted was worship, but they didn’t want deliverance.
