I’m going to preach on this subject today, trusting the design. I don’t care what you do this year; you are going to have to trust God’s design. You may be seated in the presence of the Lord. One of my good friends, who lives both in Seattle and Orlando, is a really good golfer. About a month ago, he was unable to play. His brother texted me and said, «Your friend, Brian, has a tumor on his brain the size of an orange.» I was immediately overtaken with, I’ll be honest, fear, a little bit of grief, and a little bit of worry. I’m human. I know we’re supposed to walk by faith, but at that moment, I was like, «Lord, just let him survive.» They went in and did the surgery, and it turned out the tumor was benign. Praise God! That was a month ago, and he has lost no motor skills and no speech. He told me yesterday, «In the month since the surgery, I already feel like I used to feel before.» He didn’t even know he had a tumor. The way they discovered it was that he went to pick up golf balls at the driving range. The balls come in a bucket with a handle, and when he went to pick up the bucket, he couldn’t because he didn’t have the strength in his hand. That’s how they found out; he immediately collapsed, they took him to the hospital, and long story short, he had surgery, and now he’s fine. He’s one of the best golfers I’ve ever seen in my life. This shows how caring people are; even when they’re going through hard times, they are worried about you. So I texted him, «Man, how are you doing? Can I do anything for you?» He starts talking about the amazing miracle God has placed in his life, and he said, «I want you and my pastor to meet the next time you come to Florida.» I said, «Absolutely, I’ll meet with your pastor, the person who walked you through this and prayed for you.» His first question, after I asked how he was doing, was, «How’s your swing?» Remember, I told you he’s a great golfer. He said, «How’s your swing?» I answered that it’s been cold outside, so we haven’t been able to play. I’ve been propping my phone against the wall just to watch my swing, to see if I’m on plane. So I sent it to him, and he said to me, with a scar on his head, fresh off surgery, «Oh man, the club face is square! Your posture is great! The problem is, your shoulders are turning before your lower body.» He said, «I’ve known you a long time, and I keep telling you the same thing over and over, yet you keep doing the same thing. You know what your problem is? You don’t trust the design.» What happens is that whenever you get a result doing it wrong, you’ll do it wrong because you want the result and not the right action. I know how to achieve a certain result with a less-than-great golf swing. It doesn’t mimic a pro, but I know how to get a result. The problem is that it’s inconsistent. Sometimes I get the result, and sometimes I don’t. He said the reason is that you’re starting with the upper body when you should be starting with the lower body. I’m worried about people who have a vision because we always start with our heads instead of our feet. He didn’t say everything you think about; he said, «Every place your foot shall tread, ” which means you have to use your feet before you use your logic. You have to use your feet before you can use your money. You have to use your feet before you can use your connections. Just touch three people and say, „You’ve got to walk it out.“ No, say it with some swag; tell them, „Walk it out! Walk it out!“ Don’t say it normally; you’ve got to walk on it. I want you this week—everybody say, „This week!”—if you have the time, to go into car lots you cannot afford to be in, and I want you to sit in cars you know your credit can’t buy, but you better act like you can. I’m only talking about 500 of y’all in here today. Don’t walk in saying, „I can’t afford this. I don’t know why I’m here.“ I want you to walk in there. They’re going to say, „How you doing?“ and you say, „Yes, how are you?“ with your broke self. Touch your neighbor and say, „With your broke self!“ I want you to put on your best jogging pants and UGGs today. I want you to walk up in there and act like you can afford it. I want you to sit in the car, push the seat back, and talk out loud. Ask, „Can my dog fit behind me? Is there enough room for my nephew?“ Talk out loud. Why? Because you’ve got to put your feet on it. I want you to walk in neighborhoods.
