Max Lucado - We Need a Little Christmas This Christmas (Perhaps Today)
I wonder when the craziness of this pandemic began to disrupt you. Was it that very first time that you had to stand six feet behind the patron in the grocery store, looking down on the strip of tape, realizing you couldn't get up close to anybody? Was it that very first time when you heard the reports coming out of the major cities of death, so numerous, that they were having to use refrigerated trucks? Was it that very first time that you visited your grandma in the nursing home, but you couldn't go in, you had to talk to her through a window, using a cell phone? Was it that very first time you put one of these on?
I want to tell you, I want to head up the committee to burn these masks. Who wants to be on that committee with me? I tell you what: we'll make a pile, we'll spray it with gasoline, and I'll throw the mask if you'll let me, we're going to burn these things up. I'm not anti-mask, God bless you for wearing one, I really understand their function and their purpose. I just don't like what they do to us. I don't like walking through a grocery store, not being able to see people's smiles. I don't like breathing my own breath. I didn't know I had such bad breath. My wife and I've been married nearly 40 years, I said "Honey, I can't believe you've been smelling this all these years, and you haven't told me. God bless you".
Maybe it was the numbers: over 300 000 now dead, 33 million+ negatively affected in their work and in their income. 2020 feels like a bad dream. And that's not to mention, even the the riots, the knee on the neck, the lootings, the struggles, and I think there was an election this year. My goodness, it feels a bit like a script, or a chapter out of a science fiction novel. I'll tell you one thing: we need a little Christmas this Christmas. We need to hear the story of the manger. We need to hear the singing of the angels, which we have done today, God bless you. Thank you. We need to be reminded that Jesus came, we need to be reminded that Jesus is coming back, amen? So, if you could use a little Christmas this Christmas, you're in the right place.
