During the thousands of years before Christ, the Bible identifies very few “friends of God” such as Abraham, Moses, and David -- guilt and fear were more common characteristics of relationships with God then. Jesus radically changed the situation, opening a new bridge that makes God accessible to everyone and explaining that God wants our top priority to be having a deep relationship with him through knowing him, spending time with him, and trusting him. God is so passionate about wanting this intense personal relationship with us that he says our number-one priority in life must be getting to know and love him better each day.
