Sheryl Brady - I Hear Backup Moving in Your Direction
A severe famine ravaged Samaria due to war with the Syrian army to the extent that the economy was ruined, and some even resorted to cannibalism. Against the extreme harsh realities they were facing, Elisha prophesied that in just one day, everything would change for the better. The next morning, a group of outcasts (leprous men) boldly dared to venture into the camp of the Syrians. There, they discovered that the Syrian military base had been completely abandoned, leaving behind all the spoils of war. God had released the sound of a great army that scared the Syrians into deserting their stronghold.
I’m going to read from the King James Version. I know some of you might be upset about that, but it’s all right. I’m going to start reading at the first verse. The Bible says, «Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord: Thus saith the Lord, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.» Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God. Well, first of all, nobody asked you any questions, so you had better not try to answer something if nobody asks you anything. But he answered, «I’m sorry, I forgot you were here. I do argue with the text sometimes.» Then the lord, on whose hand the king leaned, answered the man of God and said, «Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, how might this be?» And he said, «Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not eat thereof.» What a sad commentary that is! There were four leprous men at the entering of the gate, and they said one to another, «Why sit we here until we die? If we say, 'We will enter into the city, ' then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore, come, and let us fall into the host of the Syrians, the enemies. If they save us alive, we will live, and if they kill us, we shall but die. No big deal; we’ll just die. But we have to move because we can’t stay where we are.» That’s what they’re saying. What’s the most they can do? Kill us? Okay then, they just kill us. That’s all right. They rose up in the twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians, and when they came to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses. I wanted to get them to give me some kind of audio of the sound of horses and chariots, but I didn’t give them enough time. So anyway, it’s my fault, not theirs, but I wanted you to hear how loud the sound of horses and chariots really are. The Lord, who made this happen—not them, but the Lord—made the host of the Syrians hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses. There wasn’t actually a noise of chariots, and there wasn’t a noise of horses, but the Lord made these men hear the sounds of chariots and horses, even the noise of a great host. They said one to another, «Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the king of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to come upon us.» Wherefore, they arose and fled in the twilight, and they left—that’s important—they left their tents, they left their horses, they left their donkeys, they left their possessions, and even the camp. They left everything just as it was and fled for their lives. Why did that happen? Because, if you notice the verse prior to the Lord making the horses and chariots make noises and causing them to hear it, they had made up their minds: we have to do something. When they used their faith, all heaven moved behind them. Are you all hearing me? Look at your neighbor and say, «Neighbor, I hear backup moving in your direction.» Tell your other neighbor, «Neighbor, I hear backup moving in your direction.» Tell them you have to make a faith move, though. You have to make a faith move. You have to make a faith move. Every now and then, you just have to risk it all, go after God, and make a decision. The worst that could happen to me, God, is that this could kill me, but I’m going to make a move. Hit somebody and tell them, «Make a move. Make a move.» We’re going to move forward by faith. Spirit of the living God, I love you, and I thank you for your word. It brings us so much life, Lord. Even as we read it, it brings life to us. Lord, we feel like we can conquer anything based on your word. Thank you for your presence that’s in this room. You could have gone anywhere, but God, you came here. You came here, and we recognize that you’re here, and we thank you for that. Now have your way and make this word palatable for every person that needs to hear. We give you glory for it in Jesus’s name. Somebody shout, «Amen,» and «Amen!» On your way down, tell somebody, «I hear backup moving in your direction.» I hear it moving. I hear it. I hear it moving…
