I believe it was God saying, «I’m going under wraps now. I’ve been with you, but now I’m moving in. I’m gonna fly under the radar a little bit, but don’t worry because I’m right there in you.» Tell somebody, «Don’t worry; He’s right there in you.» The shift always happens when God is under wraps. You’ll get it later.
Spirit of God, I love you, and I honor you. I’m so hungry today; I feel like I want to eat this food all up. If they don’t get it, and they don’t say amen, rest assured it will not go to waste because my soul cries out, «Yes!» I’m believing you for great and mighty things. This is the day; if there’s ever been a day, this is that day, and I am believing you for it now. Father, take my thoughts and help me to articulate them as I see them so that your people can see it. They can feast on your word, and they will walk out of here where the yokes are being broken, with expectation at an all-time high, believing you for miracles, signs, and wonders. Help us today, God, and we will be helped. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus. Somebody shout amen and amen.
On your way down, touch somebody and say, «God has gone under wraps.» We’ve said a lot about Pentecost Sunday. I want to just make sure, in case there’s anyone among us that doesn’t fully understand it, that I tell you a couple of things. Pentecost Sunday is when we celebrate the coming of God’s spirit into the lives of men and women. It is the day we celebrate; Pentecost Sunday is the birthday of the church. So, you can look at someone and technically say, «Happy birthday!» This is the birthday of the church. It’s the commemoration that happens between Passover and Pentecost. There is a space between Passover and Pentecost. When we come into Pentecost, it is the coronation of what happened between those two spaces. Passover is where, if you go back in your mind and your scripture, you’ll see that during Passover, He said, «When I see the blood, I will pass over you.» Whenever I see the shed blood over the doorpost, He said, «I will pass over you.»
Now, the reason the death angel passed over the children of Israel in Egypt was that when he saw the blood on the doorposts of the houses, it was assigned to the death angel that death had already been there and visited that house. It wasn’t because one house was better than another; it wasn’t because one house was more perfect than another; it wasn’t because one house had higher standards than another, or one house was more righteous or religious than another. The death angel was definitely coming over Egypt, and any place that he did not see blood, he was going in for the kill. When he saw blood, he knew death had already been there, and so rather than stop, he passed over.
So now the Passover of the death angel in the Old Testament for the children of Israel becomes the cross for the New Testament church. Are you following me? Jesus becomes the sacrificial lamb. They would have to take a lamb, a leg of lamb, and put its blood on the doorpost of their houses. But that would only bring temporary relief. Now, because of the cross and Jesus becoming the sacrificial lamb—the lamb who shed His blood—it is now a permanent fixture. The shedding of His blood, listen, acknowledges that we are all in need of His blood. It acknowledges that none of us are inexcusable; it acknowledges that none of us are blameless. None of us, not one under the sound of my voice, is innocent and does not need the blood. Because the Bible says, «For the wages of sin is death,» and if we really got what we deserved, we would receive death, because that is sin’s wage.
It is also the word of God, and the word of God says, «The wages of sin is death.» So when we sin, God, being a man who cannot lie, does not just wink at our sin, because His word is truth. Somebody say «truth.» He doesn’t sweep our sin under the rug; He doesn’t just wink at our mistakes that we have in our lives. Instead, what He does is say, «This is my word; my word cannot return void. What I’ve said has been said, so I will go and I will shed my blood to pay the price for their sin, and I’ll do it on the cross.»
They, by the way, speaking of us, are worthy to die; they should die; they have sinned; they are in debt for the things that they have done. Justice has declared that they are guilty, but I will die in their stead so that all the things that they should receive because of their guilt, they won’t get. Okay, I’ve got to just kind of stop right there because I want you to think about that for just a moment. I want you to think about all the things that you did that you should reap back in your life. You won’t get it because He let it pass over you. You don’t have to tell me what you did, but I bet you better stop right now and say, «Lord, I thank…»
