Some people can’t benefit from who you are now because they are still stuck on who you used to be. Did you hear what I just said? Some people could benefit from who you are right now if they would get over who you used to be. God is intentional, and this truth is both comforting and confusing at the same time. It’s comforting because I can rest in the revelation that He is doing something, but it’s confusing because I don’t always know what He is doing. This is due to something I affectionately call the principle of perspective. Here it is, family: the principle of perspective—where you sit determines what you see, and what you see determines what you do. Where you sit determines what you see, and what you see determines what you do. So, this means I don’t always understand what God is doing because I’m not seeing what God sees, and I’m not seeing what God is seeing because I’m not sitting where God is sitting. See, I see to the corner; God sees around the corner. I see to the hill; God sees over the hill. I see today; God sees tomorrow. Sometimes I’m confused about what God is doing in my today, not realizing God is doing something in my today because He knows what’s getting ready to happen in my tomorrow. Am I making sense? So, God may say no, I’m not going to let you get that job today because of what I see tomorrow. I’m not going to let you get that contract today because of what I see tomorrow. I’m not going to let you say «I do» today because of what I see in tomorrow. Are you following me, family? Yeah, because we may be looking at something that, from our perspective, looks like an opportunity, but from God’s perspective, it looks like a trap. Some doors are trap doors; some opportunities show up looking like problems, and some problems show up looking like opportunities. This is why I’m glad that the Bible says He opens doors that no man can shut and closes doors that no man can open. Is there anyone here who will pause for a moment and say, I’m not just going to thank Him for the open doors; I’m going to thank Him for the closed doors because you saw some things I didn’t see? We can look at the same thing and not see the same thing. Is that not what happened in John 11 when Jesus got word that one of His friends, an acquaintance named Lazarus, was sick? The Bible says they sent word to Jesus saying, «You need to get here quickly,» because from their perspective, it’s an emergency; from their perspective, it’s time-sensitive. But the Bible says Jesus stayed where He was for two more days and didn’t even get to where Lazarus was until Lazarus had been in the grave for four days. The thing you call an emergency is not always an emergency to God. Sometimes we’re like, «God, why aren’t you coming?» He’s saying, «I ain’t rushing.» Because you call it dead, but I say he’s just sleeping. Did you hear what I just said? Where you sit determines what you see, and what you see determines what you do. So, what looks like one thing might actually be another; what looks like rejection might be direction. Am I making sense? And family, what I’m attempting to articulate is clearly seen in our foundational text in the book of Exodus. Exodus is one of my favorite books of the Bible, family. It’s interesting here because the word Exodus simply means «exit.» I’ll say that again: the word Exodus simply means «exit.» So, the content contained in the book of Exodus exposes us to how God orchestrated and arranged for His people to exit over 400 years of Egyptian captivity. See, the title of the book alone is a blessing to me because if God is the God of exits, then that means I’m never trapped. Let me go to this side: I said if God is the God of exits, then that means I’m never trapped. I may feel trapped; it may look trapped; people may say I’m trapped. But if God’s got to part the Red Sea, He’ll get me through; if He’s got to knock down a Jericho wall, He’ll get me through. Is there anyone here that’s ever felt like your back was up against the wall and you were out of options? And when you are out of options, the devil wanted you to slide into desperation, but you’re too blessed to be desperate. Desperation is for people who don’t have options. Thank you! Desperation is an indication that a person doesn’t have a revelation that God will always give you options. Don’t miss this, family. They were under this oppressive regime for over 400 years, and what’s interesting about this entire narrative is that God lets them stay there until they ask Him to come out. Did you hear what I just said? For 400 years they were tormented, oppressed, and suppressed—some of them depressed—and for 400 years, God let them stay there until they asked to come out. Because God will let you live on whatever level you settle for. Because the God you see is the God you get. We can serve the same God and have two different experiences. Yeah, we see that in Matthew Chapter 13, where the Bible says Jesus goes back to His hometown, and He could not perform many miracles there because their faith became infected with familiarity. They said, «Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?» See, some people can’t benefit from who you are now because they are still stuck on who you used to be. Did you hear what I just said?
