I used to be picky; now I’m desperate. I need a move of God. Kierkegaard said, «Life is lived forward, but it’s only understood backward.» He said there are times when you must live in a season long enough to extract understanding from it. In other words, you will eventually reach a season in your future where you look back at a season of your past and realize that when you were in the present, you were mislabeling that season. Right now, you’re saying God is doing nothing, but you will step into a future season where you’ll look back at this season and say, «This was the best season of my life.» I don’t know who this is for, but don’t label your season too quickly. By the time God redeems your situation, you will need to go back and rename it. You called it a breakup, but later, you’ll see it was a breakthrough. We see that God is intentional. If I’m making sense, wave at me; let me see. All right, here it is: this truth is both comforting and confusing. It’s comforting because I can rest in the revelation that He’s doing something, but it’s confusing because, although I know He’s doing something, I don’t always know what God is doing. I know some of you have such prophetic insight and acumen that you always know exactly what God is doing, but for some of us, we hit seasons where we wonder, «God, what is up with this? Why is this taking so long?» You told me, «No weapon formed against me shall prosper,» yet this feels like it’s prospering. We know God is doing something, but we don’t always know what that something is. What exacerbates this reality is that God never promises explanations. Don’t miss this: we know God’s doing something, but we don’t always know what He is doing. God can be unpredictable. Now please, don’t read what I’m not writing and don’t hear what I’m not saying. I am not disputing the reality of God’s immutability. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. He is exactly who He says He is; He is exactly who He says He will be. He was a healer; He is a healer, and He will be a healer. He was a provider; He is a provider, and He will be a provider. He was a waymaker; He is a waymaker, and He will be a waymaker. He was a door opener; He is a door opener, and He will be a door opener. He was a doctor in a sick room; He is a doctor in a sick room, and He will be a doctor in a sick room. His character is consistent; He possesses what Dr. Kenneth Alma calls an eternal essence. He never was but always is what He will be. He just is. Before Abraham was, I am. The reason some of us are still singing in the membrane when we’ve encountered some insane situations is that when life wasn’t consistent, when people weren’t consistent, when your health wasn’t consistent, and when your relationships weren’t consistent, God has been consistent. Somebody give a consistent God an incredible praise! Listen to this: although there is no inconsistency in His character, there is unpredictability in His activity. Did you hear what I just said? Although there is no inconsistency in His character, there is unpredictability in His activity. You can predict who He will be, but you cannot always predict what He will do. There are some situations, like in Mark 5, with someone like Jairus, who comes to Jesus and says, «Listen, you’ve got to go deal with my daughter; she’s sick!» Jesus moved immediately. Then I can take you to John 11, where He hears about one He loves deeply named Lazarus, and when He gets word that Lazarus is sick, He doesn’t move; He stays where He is and doesn’t arrive until four days later. I can show you instances where people got healed because He touched them, and then I can show you where the woman with the issue of blood was healed because she touched Him. Although there is no inconsistency in His character, there is unpredictability in His activity. But I want to know, am I talking to anyone who’s in a season where you’re honest enough to say, «Beggars cannot be choosers?» Lord, in this season of my life, however you fix it, fix it; however you move it, move it; however you turn it around, turn it around.
