Father, we thank You for the privilege and the opportunity to come before Your presence. I’m grateful for every person in the building and every person online. I’m praying that You take these next few moments and speak to our hearts. Help us to hear Your voice, Almighty God, and make it ever so clear that our hearts may be convicted and confirmed. We pray, Father, that Your name receives all the glory and all the honor. Save somebody today; reclaim a backslider; restore somebody who has drifted away; plant believers. When it’s all said and done, let the name of Jesus receive all the glory and honor. It’s in His name we pray, amen and amen. Praise the Lord!
Oh, you can be seated. Let me once again celebrate the young people in our church. I am so proud of them; amen. They are phenomenal, and I’m proud of the leaders and the adults who are working with them. Thank you, Larry; bless you, buddy, and all of our youth and young adult leaders in the children’s department. Thank you so much for what you’re doing; you should be commended. I am closing today this series on foundational principles from Hebrews 6, so if you have your Bibles, we’re going to go to Hebrews 6. By the way, tell your neighbor this is a Bible study today-take good notes! Tell your neighbor to take good notes because I know you' re going to go home and read all these verses I share with you today. You 're going to reflect upon them, meditate on them, and allow them to shift and change your life.
Our focus for our church is discipling, being discipled, and being disciplers. I want to ensure you’ve been exposed to the truth and that what you’ve learned you’re sharing with others. Having said that, I have been addressing foundational things that are important for every believer to know. In Hebrews chapter 6, beginning at verse one, I want to read this for just a moment. The writer of Hebrews writes to some Jews who have converted to Christianity but are contemplating going back to Judaism. He spends the whole book of Hebrews encouraging them to stay the course and stick with the Lord.
When he gets to chapter 6, he says in verse one: «Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection.» He says, «Look, let’s move past the elementary things; let’s go on to more mature discussions,» in essence. Then he lists six doctrines that are important for every believer to know and understand. We have been discussing one of these six doctrines each week. In the first week, we talked about the foundation of repentance from dead works. Repentance from dead works means that we repent, we turn around, and we forsake doing things to try to earn salvation. Look at your neighbor and say, «You can’t earn salvation.» Tell them, «You can’t earn it!» It cannot be earned; you don’t work to get saved. We are saved by faith alone, saved by our faith in the Lord Jesus. So, he says that repentance from dead works is the first thing.
Secondly, there is faith toward God. We are people of faith; we put our faith in the Lord. We act as people of faith; we are governed by faith. We make our decisions based on faith. This is how we live our lives: in God. In verse two, he speaks of the doctrines of baptisms. We talked about baptisms-there are five baptisms. I focused on one; I didn’t go through all five, but I mentioned them. We focused on water baptism and how important it is to be properly baptized in the right order. In other words, you are saved, then you get baptized-that’s what we spent time discussing.
Then we talked about the laying on of hands, which was number four. You’ve got to be careful about who you let lay hands on you. How many of you know that I think I shared with you that a person does not have to touch you to lay hands on you? When you expose yourself to their teachings, when you embrace their beliefs, and when you submit to their thinking, you allow someone to lay their hands on you. Some of you need to learn to say, like the words of the great theologian MC Hammer, «Don 't touch this!» Last week, we talked about the resurrection of the dead. We discussed the fact that everyone will be raised at some point. Everyone will be raised from the dead; everybody will spend eternity somewhere. The question is, where will you spend it? You will either spend eternity in the bosom of Abraham, in the arms of Jesus, which represents heaven, or you will spend eternity in hell. There are two places; there’s no in-between. Look at your neighbor and say, «There 's no in-between!» The Bible does not talk about purgatory; that’s not a biblical place, amen.
So, the bottom line is, we will all be raised from the dead, and we 'll spend eternity somewhere. Finally, I want to close today with the ever-popular, very important topic of eternal judgments. Yeah, I knew you would be excited about that! I don’t know how excited those five or six people who clapped will be when they hear that we will all have to stand before God and give…
