Anyone with breath can praise God because of what He’s done, but it takes a revelation of who God is to be a worshipper. As powerful as God is, He cannot worship Himself. This is an assignment and role reserved for man. Real worship is not just about the songs we sing but about the sacrifices we bring. Worship is costly and in Daniel 3, we see that the 3 Hebrew children were thrown into the fire because they refused to bow down and worship to the golden image King Nebuchadnezzar made. In this sermon, you will learn that real worshippers cannot be burned by life’s fire because worship is already a living sacrifice and offering unto God. Worship has its own fire which is why you can come out of the fire and not smell like smoke just like the 3 Hebrew children. As you make a decision to chose God in the face of life’s adversities, God will not just show up as the fourth man in the fire but he will bring deliverance to you through the fire. Be rest assured, this will get the attention of all your enemies.
On your way to your seat, look at your neighbor and ask them, «Do I have your attention?» What did they say? Just tell them, «If I don’t have your attention, I will have it by the time we are done.» Now that I have your attention, can we turn on all the lights? If this is all the lights, can we have them all turned on? Thank you! Now that I have your attention—perfect! Our God is powerful, and I don’t say that lightly; I really do mean it. The God we serve is powerful, which means He has all power. He doesn’t have some power; He has all power. He can do anything, and He can do everything. He created the heavens—He has all power. He created the Earth—He has all power. I’m talking about You, God. He called for water from the rocks—He has all power. He told the ravens to feed Elijah—He has all power. He showed up in Daniel’s den where there were lions—He has all power. He kept Jonah in the belly of the fish—He has all power. He rained manna from the sky—He has all power. He split the Red Sea and parted the Jordan—He has all power.
In the New Testament, we see Him as Jesus walking on water because He has all power. Do you know that all power belongs to God? Do you understand that He can do anything and everything? This is the God that you serve, and this is the God that I serve. But with all His power and all His might, there is still something He cannot do. Yes, I know He’s powerful, and yes, I know He’s mighty, but there is still something He cannot do: God cannot worship Himself. Whatever you worship, you acknowledge as greater than you; since nothing is greater than Him, He cannot worship Himself. So it seems there is this void and vacancy that God kept and reserved for man; this role that you are supposed to play.
Listen, anything can praise God because the requirement for praise is breath: «Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.» The birds can praise the Lord; the animals can praise, but it takes a revelation to truly worship God. The Bible says those who worship will worship in spirit and in truth. It requires a certain level of revelation and truth to worship God. So God deliberately left that for you and me; this means this is something God cannot do for Himself.
Let’s flip it around: most of us are here today believing God for things that you cannot do for yourself. God is not a transactional God because, as a grace-filled believer, I know you don’t have to work for what Jesus gave you. But just in case He operated in a transactional way, here you are, believing God to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. My question is: have you done for Him what He cannot do for Himself? Have you worshipped Him? What if the miracle were dependent on your worship? What if the breakthrough were dependent on your worship?
Some of you are here believing God for miracles, signs, and wonders: «God, I need this» or «God, I need that.» And God is saying, «Have you opened your mouth to worship?» When Jerome was leading worship this morning, he talked about lifting hands, and that was not a suggestion; that was a command. «Lifting up holy hands» is scripture. But some of us don’t understand that He deserves all of our praise. It’s His breath that is in your lungs; it’s His strength that allows you to lift your hands and walk. If He were to just close His eyes for a second, you would be no more, and here you are struggling to give God what He deserves.
This is why worship is so important. I’m sorry to disappoint you; I didn’t come to see you, and I hope you didn’t come to see me. I didn’t come to hear you, and I hope you didn’t come to hear me. I came to worship God. Yes, I’m delivering a word, but I came to worship God with my life. I came to worship God with my gifts. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t come to observe; I came to worship God. I don’t know if you are a worshiper or a watcher; I don’t know if you came to observe or participate. But God told me to tell you: if you can do for Him what He cannot do for Himself, in this season, He’s going to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. Your miracle is in your worship! I said, your miracle is in your worship! Your miracle is in your mouth!
Woo! I feel the power of the Holy Ghost! Allow me to express my gratitude and thanks to God because the God we serve is a powerful God. He cannot be defined by time; He cannot be confined in space. He is the God who has made the heavens His throne; He is the God who has made the earth His footstool. All the nations of the earth are like a drop of water before this God. He is the one who has stretched out the heavens; He is the one who has painted the clouds with the colors of His glory. I’m talking about your God and my God. Words are not enough to explain, expound, or express the greatness of my God.
