What if a child had never even been to elementary school but said to his parents, “I really want to be a brain surgeon!” And imagine if his parents replied, “Your heart is so sincere. Here is a scalpel so you can start right now.” No one would do that! And you wouldn’t want someone performing brain surgery on you who couldn’t even read! The parents would be more apt to say, “That desire is good, but let’s start with first grade and build on top of that.” Likewise, there are many Christians who are trying to perform “spiritual surgery” before establishing themselves in the basics of the Word of God. It’s not an insult to realize you need to go back to the basics. It’s a good thing! When you have the basics, you can really start building your life on a solid foundation.
