Ephesians 6:1,2 tells us to “obey and honor our parents, for this is right.” How do you want to be treated when you become elderly yourself? Psalm 71:9 says, “Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” How many elderly parents feel forgotten, cast off in their old age? The Bible also tells us in Proverbs 23:22, “Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.” Your parents, as they grow older, need you. A very small bit of time spent in a phone call or stopping by to say hi can mean everything to an elderly parent. People, in their older age especially, remember the attention you showed them.
