David Diga Hernandez - God's Anointed: Isaiah the Prophet
I want to talk to you about the call of God that’s on your life. We’re continuing my series, «God’s Anointed,» and in this edition of Spirit Church, I’ll be discussing the prophet Isaiah. We’re going to examine how he was called by the Lord when he glimpsed the glory of God, and from that point on, Isaiah was used as a mouthpiece of Heaven. So, we’ll look at the call of Isaiah and glean truths from his life concerning the call of God. Then, we’ll apply these truths, and I believe that the call of God on your life is closer than you think. In fact, most people imagine that the call of God is something that comes later in their lives, but the call of God is right here, right now. I want to stir your faith today to step into that call. Steven Mzuma is here with me, as usual; he’s going to lead you in worship, and then we’re going to get right into this lesson on Isaiah the prophet.
So I want to talk to you about the call of God, and we are looking at the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 6. I am going to read verses 1-8, where the scripture says, «In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord; he was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Hovering around him were mighty seraphim, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with the remaining two they flew. In a great chorus they sang, 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is filled with his glory.' The glorious singing shook the temple to its foundations, and the entire sanctuary was filled with smoke. Then I said, 'My destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man and a member of a sinful race, yet I have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.' Then one of the seraphim flew over to the altar and picked up a burning coal with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, 'See, this coal has touched your lips; now your guilt is removed and your sins are forgiven.' Then I heard the Lord asking, 'Whom should I send as a messenger to my people? Who will go for us? ' And I said, 'Lord, I’ll go; send me' or 'Here I am, Lord; send me.'» It’s a very famous portion of scripture. I want to first look at verse number one, where the scripture tells us that Isaiah’s encounter with the glory of God— the time that he glimpsed the presence of God in a visible way— was during the season when King Uzziah had died; he had recently passed away. Now, prophets would serve the kings; prophets would offer their gifting in service to the king. When King Uzziah died, I believe it was symbolic for Isaiah’s focus being replaced by the Lord. So his focus, instead of being upon King Uzziah, was on the King of Kings. Therefore, number one: for the called, all other kings must die. Jesus said no man can serve two masters; you have to love one and hate the other, or love one and reject the other. You can only have one number one: there is only one priority in your life, and that is the service to your Master, Jesus. You see, we like to call him Savior; we like to call him Healer; we like to call him Deliverer, because those titles for him speak of things that he does for us. But very few people— very few believers, in fact— like the idea of bowing before him as Lord, to where he is the Lord over your life. But if you want God to use you, you have to learn to call him Lord; you have to learn to call him Master; you have to learn to call him your King, even if you have to do it every single day anew. Crown him Lord of your life. The scripture says that his mercies are new every morning, and every morning that you awake brings an opportunity for you to offer your life in service to the Majesty; it’s an opportunity for you to offer your life and say, 'Lord, I want my life to be used for your glory, and I want my life to bring you pleasure. I want my life to please you, God. I want the way I live to cause you to be joyful; I want the way I obey you to allow you to trust me with the deeper things of the Spirit, such as revelation, such as more intense power upon my life. I want God to be able to trust me with spiritual matters.' And so all other kings must die; there is only one throne on your heart, and you have to give that to the Lord. So, for the call: number one, all other kings must die. He has to come before ministry; he has to come before your spouse; he has to come before your children. That’s right; he has to come before your family; he has to come before your ego; he has to come before your dreams. Now, I know this sounds controversial, but this is what Jesus taught. Jesus said if you don’t hate your mother and father, you can’t truly love me; you can’t truly follow me. And he wasn’t saying that you have to hate them with an immoral hate; he was talking about hating them in comparison to how much we love him. In other words, we reject those who try to pull us away from what God has called us to do. Now let me make this very clear: there is a difference between serving your king and serving your ministry. Your ministry does not come before your family, but God does. Your ministry cannot be your number one priority; God must be your number one priority. All other kings must die; you have to lay down your life; you have to say, 'Lord, you are not one of many things; you are the only thing. You are the King of Kings, and you are the King over my life.' Now go down to verse number five. We find that Isaiah the prophet says, 'Then I said, my destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man and a member of a sinful race.' The scripture says in this same verse in the King James Version, 'For I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.' He is saying, 'Because of my sin, because of how filthy I am, because of my setbacks and shortcomings, I cannot possibly stand in the glory of God.' So let’s read this verse again: 'Then I said, my destruction is sealed…'
