David Diga Hernandez - The Holy Spirit is STILL Moving Today

I’m sitting here with Joshua Michael and Michael from Remnant Radio. Gentlemen, welcome to the program! Thanks for having us; we’re glad to be here and joining you. So, let’s start with this: how did Remnant Radio come to be? I started Remnant in 2017. I was kind of raised in the classical Pentecostal tradition. Are you familiar with Steve Hill and Brownsville? Steve planted a church in Dallas, Texas, where I attended and was discipled. I went to the Bible school there, and the worship pastor went on to plant a church. I worked for him for a while, so I was in that classical Pentecostal vein. I have a ton of respect for that tradition, though I don’t necessarily find myself in that space anymore. I was pushing on some things like authority—specifically, the Bible’s authority versus my leaders' authority. I had questions about how the church was governed and organized. Then, as I started being introduced to a group of guys who were doing prophecy, we believed in all the gifts; we just didn’t see people doing prophecy properly. We had speaking in tongues, which was considered the hallmark of arriving charismatically. So, we believed in the gifts theoretically. I started this podcast because I wanted to discuss theology and engage with these topics, and there wasn’t much of that happening in the classical space. I began reaching out and inviting people on, and that’s how I met Miller. He was one of the guys recommended to me, and he came on for an episode. My co-host at the time, Jeff Gray, helped me conduct all these interviews. He was feeling the pull of family and business and stepped away from Remnant the week Miller said, «Hey, I love being on Remnant. If you ever need me to fill in as a co-host, just let me know.» He was asking if, in case Jeff was out of town or on vacation, I could call on him. So, he hangs up the phone, and an hour later, Jeff calls me to say, «Hey man, I know we’ve discussed this a lot, but I need to step back; I’ve got to be done with Remnant.» I called Michael right back and asked, «Hey, do you want to be the co-host permanently?» He responded, «I don’t know about that; I live in Frisco, which is an hour and a half away,» but he graciously accepted and came on. Obviously, the show took off after he joined. And then, there was a major downturn; the views just crashed. No, but that’s how we got started! As you heard, they had a 20-year-old friendship. So, when Michael and Miller had a 20-year-old friendship, when Miller moved to Denver to plant a church, Michael naturally filled that co-host position. It was seamless; we just moved the studio over to his church. The chemistry was already there as well, so it kind of worked out. The timeline is 2017, and in 2019, I came on as a guest. That’s right; in 2019, I became the co-host, and then in 2020, Michael was brought on.

What I find so refreshing about Remnant Radio is that, while you all obviously disagree with each other—oh, totally, in one area or another, sure—and there are definitely areas where you and I disagree, MH, I’ve seen how lovingly and respectfully you handle those disagreements. I think this is what the body of Christ needs. This is part of the reason I wanted to talk to you guys about what you’re doing. I think it’s something very special that you’re able to bring on people with different views—not necessarily varying views on foundational truths, but in areas where there are debates on more specific doctrines. You’re able to welcome them without being defensive, hysterical, or angry should they disagree with you, and I really appreciate what God is doing through Remnant Radio. Again, while we vary on some things, I think ultimately we agree on Jesus. Amen!

The fact that you’re getting people more interested in studying Scripture, studying theology, and even understanding things about their own doctrine that they may never have known before is something I truly appreciate. Additionally, even in getting to know you just a little bit here in the studio, you guys were back there preparing, joking, and laughing. It’s like, wow, these guys enjoy this; they’re immersed in this in a very positive way, and that definitely speaks to the friendship you’re describing. What is that like in terms of your friendship? Traveling together sometimes, I’m sure, and working together in ministry—what are some of the blessings of doing that with each other? It’s everything! It’s life, it’s family, it’s theology. You know, I’ve got people in the church asking questions about how to handle this situation or that situation, and we help each other—we’re there for one another. I think we’re friends first. Honestly, if Remnant were to take a headshot tomorrow and it didn’t make it, we would still be friends. I believe that to be true. We’ll see, but there’s still time to figure it out. I think the chemistry contributes to how we work together on the show, and there’s even a kind…
