John chapter 6, verse 5 says, «When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, 'Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat? '» He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. I’m not done reading, but that’ll preach right there. He already had in mind what he was going to do before the problem became a problem. He already knew the answer. Listen to this: it says, «Philip said it would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite.» Another one of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up and said, «Here is a small boy with five barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will that go among so many?» Jesus answered, «Have the people sit down.» There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down; about 5,000 men were there, not counting women and children. Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted, and he did the same with the fish. So when they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, «Gather the pieces that are left over; let nothing be wasted.» So they gathered them and filled 12 baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. I want to pause right there and stop the reading of God’s word, and I want to teach from this topic in our time together. It’s encouragement; it’s instruction from the series «Boss Moves.» I want to talk from this subject today: «Move like a Boss.» Just in case you are unaware, I feel the urge to inform you that you’ve been created, you’ve been called, and you’ve been commissioned to be a boss. Now, when I use the word «boss,» I am not using it culturally; I’m using it spiritually. I’m redeeming the term and applying it to the life of the most influential figure in human history. I’m talking about Jesus. Jesus was a boss. When history and time are divided based on your birth and your death, you’re a boss. When you are the consequence of immaculate conception, you’re a boss. When you only live to be 33 years old and 2,000 years after your death, people are still gathering in homes, in cathedrals, in cars, on lunch breaks, on sidewalks, using iPhones, iPads, Samsung Galaxy devices, computers, and apps to receive from you and to learn about you, you are a boss. When you go into a grave, stay there all day Friday, all night Saturday, and get up early Sunday morning, you are a boss! So if we’re going to learn how to live lives of influence and impact from anybody, I am admonishing and encouraging us to learn from Jesus. You’re too anointed to be average; you’re too powerful to be pitiful; you are too chosen to be frozen. You are not made to be stuck and stagnant, but God has equipped, empowered, and anointed you to evolve into the best version of yourself. Don’t miss this: bosses move! I’m going to say that one more time: bosses move. One of the distinguishing factors between bosses and non-bosses is that bosses have movement. They don’t wait to be moved; they take responsibility for their movement. Did you hear what I just said, family? See, anyone can be moved emotionally, but just because someone is moved doesn’t mean they move. Bosses move; if something is stuck, stagnant, stationary, or motionless, they take responsibility for what they are responsible for and have mastered the art of making moves. I want to pause, and I want to tell somebody that maybe it’s your season in a specific area to make the boss move. Did you hear what I just said? If you are stuck and stationary and stagnant spiritually, make a move. Emotionally, make a move. Financially, vocationally, make a move. Pastor Darius, how do I know if I need to make a move? Here it is: misery is your message that something needs to move. Misery is a messenger; God allows it so that the misery can send a message to you that you are not created to live in such a state of frustration because frustration is an indication that it’s time to make some adjustments. You are not created to live in that state, and it is the equivalent of the check engine light in your car. So when you begin to feel it, it’s time to begin to find the area that God wants you to move in. I want somebody that’s watching, someone that’s listening, to wrap their head around this: you do not have to settle for less than God’s best. You do not have to stay in a place of misery and mediocrity because misery is your message that in whatever area you’re miserable in, you gotta move. Bosses move; they don’t wait to be moved to move. They moved. Many might hear what I’m saying and say, «Pastor Darius, I agree with what you’re saying philosophically, but I have an issue with it practically, and I don’t know why.» Let me see if we can provide some insight here. Here it is, family: you cannot move like a boss if you become easily paralyzed by problems. Something… I’m going to say it again: you cannot move like a boss if you become easily paralyzed by problems because many heard the declaration and the encouragement and the admonition to move, to progress, to advance, to evolve. Right? God is a progressive God; it’s progressive. Or, for some people, not quite for me, but for some people, process theology…
