Hey, if you’re like me, you hear from various sources that you’ve been called, created, and commissioned in some way to change the world. But if you’re also like me, you probably don’t hear much about how you can actually do this. In this video, I’m going to show you how you’re meant to change the world. Let’s go!
You know, there’s a lot of conversation about the subject of world change, but not much practical discussion about how it happens, and that’s what I want to focus on in this video. I want to reiterate something important: let me be very clear—you have been called, you have the competency, and you’ve been created to make a contribution to changing the world.
This is why I want you to lean into this topic; I want it to ignite a passion in you. Your inner fulfillment, joy, and happiness—whatever you choose to call it—is on the other side of you making the contribution you’ve been called to make. In other words, you don’t find peace just through acquisitions. You don’t attain fulfillment, satisfaction, or contentment solely through acquisitions; you find it through contributions. God is placing your fulfillment within your contributions. The only way you become internally fulfilled is by making the contribution you’ve been called and created to make in the world. You are a world changer.
But here’s the question: when we say «changing the world,» what does that mean? Do I change India? Do I change Indonesia? No, that’s not what I mean. There are segments and sectors in the world that we have all been called to infiltrate and impact. If I’m infiltrating and impacting my segment and sector, and you’re doing the same in yours, then collectively, what are we doing? We’re changing the world because we’re impacting our individual worlds.
So, you might be watching this and you work in the medical field. Maybe you’re in the pharmaceutical industry, helping to create and distribute solutions for illnesses. Perhaps you see certain things that aren’t in people’s best interests. Maybe you witness profiteering or medicines being approved that have side effects worse than the cure. The nature of these observations doesn’t mean you should leave that space; maybe you are meant to reform it. Perhaps you’re supposed to initiate something that models a different standard. That world won’t change if everyone abandons it.
Is there any market that we shouldn’t enter? Some people draw parallels between different marketplaces on extreme levels, and I agree that there are segments of certain industries that might be extreme or even evil, and seemingly beyond repair. For example, in the pharmaceutical industry, some segments may be so overrun with greed that people may feel compelled to avoid them. They might say, «My values don’t align with that,» or, «This is just toxic for my soul.» However, we shouldn’t shy away from the entire world. I believe that’s a critical point.
I also want to mention this, which I said earlier but must reiterate: Not every spiritual leader is called to be a marketplace missionary. Some, like the Apostle Paul, are, and there are others with similar callings. When you have that calling, it’s easier to navigate the balance between church and business ministry. This balance becomes simpler when you view it all as ministry. Seeing everything as ministry makes it much easier to fulfill that calling.
There’s also ministry you do in the form of what I call salvation and sanctification. If it’s helping people get saved or become more like Jesus, generally speaking, this is something you can give freely. Freely you received from God, so you should freely give to others. Typically, this requires no investment besides time. However, optimizing skill sets and certain character traits is different from salvation or sanctification. It doesn’t affect whether you go to heaven or whether you become more like Jesus; it’s for people who desire more than the ordinary.
We need to address the misconception that if something helps people, it should be free. Let’s be clear—salvation isn’t truly free; it didn’t cost you, but it cost the Father His Son. It didn’t cost you directly, but someone’s sacrifice made it available. Therefore, as we freely receive that gift of salvation, we should freely give it to others.
