Hey, what’s up, family? Check this out: your decisions are actually what determine whether or not you reach your destiny. Your destiny—what do I mean when I say that? The ultimate contribution you’ve been called and created to make—destiny is the sweet spot in your life where your spiritual gifts, natural abilities, acquired skills, and experiences all converge at the same time and place, making the ultimate impact you were created to make. So, what I want to do in this video is help you overcome an enemy of your destiny, and that is indecisiveness. I want to help you decide to overcome indecisiveness.
Listen, it’s been said that no decision is a decision. Decisions must be made; they are incredibly important. Decisions are the way we partner with God in creating the life He intends for us to create and in making the contribution He has called us to make. God intended for humans to be people who make decisions. He’s given us a word: volition, which is free will. He has given us the ability to choose, and it is up to us to steward that ability well, to use it wisely. Even after our scripture, we see examples of God encouraging His people: «Hey, you’ve got to make a choice!"—but He also nudges them in the direction they should go so they can make the choice they need to make.
In the Old Testament, He says, «I set before you today life and death, blessing and cursing,» and then tells them, «Choose life.» Choices matter; decisions matter. So, if decisions are so important to our assignment and destiny, we can’t be elementary in our understanding of them. This is something we have to develop; it’s a life skill. There’s no magic fairy dust or anointing that can be placed on an individual. It is a life skill, a kingdom life skill that must be developed; it’s a muscle that has to be worked.
I think that one of the enemies of decision-making is indecisiveness, and to a degree, almost all of us wrestle with this. I’m not saying all of us do, but to some extent, there are ranges—some struggle greatly while others don’t struggle as much. I was recently on a Zoom call as part of a mastermind group with Christian entrepreneurs, and we broke out into prayer pods. We were discussing some of our prayer needs and things we needed guidance and insight on. Someone in my prayer pod said something that really confirmed: «Alright, Darius, you need to do a video on this.» He said, «The reason many people don’t make a decision is because they’re afraid of making the wrong decision.»
Can you relate to that? Does that make sense? Have you ever felt that? I know I have. When he said that, something clicked inside me; it resonated in a unique way. The reason we sometimes struggle with making decisions is that we don’t want to make the wrong ones. So, what does that mean? It means that indecisiveness is not your issue; indecisiveness is not my issue. What do I mean by that? Indecisiveness is not the sickness; it’s the symptom. Indecisiveness is not the root; it’s the fruit. It’s not the problem—it is the product of the problem.
Well, what’s the real problem? Fear. So, I can’t fix indecisiveness if I don’t address fear. For many of us, it’s the fear of making the wrong decision that causes us to make no decisions at all.
Okay, so very practically, I want to talk to you about how to overcome this fear because the fear is real. There’s fear about making wrong decisions when it comes to things that impact our lives, and there’s fear about wrong decisions impacting other people’s lives. There’s fear that we’re going to be adversely affected by making the wrong decision. There are some decisions I don’t want to make—I never want to make the wrong decision. But sometimes, I especially don’t want to make the wrong decision because it may adversely impact me. I don’t want to be affected physically, relationally, financially, spiritually, or emotionally. I think that’s just wisdom. I mean, nobody wants that.
Then, there are times when we have fear not just because it will affect us adversely; there are instances when we wrestle with fear because it may offend someone else—people we love and care about. Sometimes there’s a bit of people-pleasing and codependency in there as well. The point I’m making is that the fear is real. So, how do you overcome this fear? I’m going to tell you: the only way you fix fear is by replacing it with a superior fear. I’m going to say that again: the only way you address this fear is by replacing it with a superior fear. What does that mean? I don’t know how to tell you not to be afraid of something you should be a little concerned about because…
