Hey, I’ve got a question for you: Is there such a thing as a soul mate? And if so, how do I find them? Once I find them, how do I keep them? Let’s try to answer some of these questions in this video. Stay locked in.
Well, listen, the term «soul mate» is something you’ve likely heard if you’ve been on this planet for any significant length of time. This term evokes a range of emotions in people. Some are excited by the term «soul mate,» while others may find it offensive. However, I’m going to tell you this: In my experience—just my experience, which may not be yours—most people are confused about the idea of a soul mate.
So let’s get right to it. Here’s the question: Darius, is there such a thing as a soul mate? Well, I’m going to say it depends on how you define it. It’s really that simple. I’m not avoiding the question; let me be very clear. I’m about to share my perspective, where I stand on it. I’m standing ten toes down on my viewpoint, but my perspective is just that: mine. It’s informed by the scriptures; it’s not merely my opinion. For me, the scriptures are the most reliable source of information on this planet for my decisions.
So, is there such a thing as a soul mate? It depends. It depends on how you define it. All right, let me start with my understanding of the word «soul mate.» If I’m going to find a soul mate, I need to begin by defining «soul.» How can I know if a soul mate exists if I’m not clear on what the soul is? The word «soul,» at least scripturally, refers to the inner part of a person’s being. It encompasses the invisible, intangible aspects of you, including your mind, thoughts, will, decision-making, emotions, imaginations, and affections.
The soul is this invisible, intangible part of us. Does that make sense? Maybe I need to do another video on this. Your view of the soul affects your perspective on soul mates, and it clarifies the concept of soul ties. Now, the terms «soul mate» or «soul tie» are not explicitly used in scripture, but they are described in a sense. The Bible talks about a soul cleaving to another.
But anyway, here’s the point: If my soul is the invisible, intangible part of me that includes my mind, will, emotions, imaginations, and affections, then a soul mate is a person who is suitable for my soul. I’ll say that again: If the soul is real—and I do believe it is—then I believe a soul mate is real because I believe there are mates that are suitable for our soul and mates that are not.
And many of us, if we’re honest—even if you’re in a relationship—this is probably not the first relationship you’ve been in. Some of you might be in your very first relationship, but for the majority of viewers, the relationship you’re currently in is not your first. You’ve likely had previous relationships, and maybe you’re not even in a relationship now, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t been in one in the past. If you have been in a relationship before, you’ve probably had experiences that were not perfect. You could probably agree that, yes, some of those mates in the past weren’t suitable for your soul.
They weren’t good for your mind, emotions, or imagination. You couldn’t envision a future with them; they weren’t good for you to have affection for, and you didn’t need to be emotionally attached to them. Think about it: when you’ve been in relationships with people who were not suitable for your soul, it caused damage to you. Some people’s views of themselves—their mindset and self-perception—have been impacted and diminished by a mate who wasn’t suitable for their soul.
Some people are emotionally unavailable because they will not invest or commit emotionally due to past experiences with unsuitable mates. Therefore, I believe in soul mates. If there is no soul mate, you’re essentially saying that anyone is suitable for your soul. For me, that’s not the case. Here’s another reason I believe in the idea of soul mates: I want you to hear…
