My job as a pastor is not just to repeat what you already know but to introduce you to some things you don’t. Alright, there are many different names throughout Scripture, but there is one name that is just as powerful, though not as popular. It is extremely important but often overlooked. This is the name David ascribed to God. Wow! And I’m not talking about when he calls Him Shepherd in Psalm 23. In 1 Chronicles, chapter 14, verse 11, it says, «So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, ‘As water breaks out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.’ So that place was called Baal-perazim.»

Okay, the reason there’s no celebration is that this is the fourth time I’ve mentioned it; I know. The reason there’s no celebration is that I need to give you an explanation of what Baal-perazim means. Yes, sir. Baal-perazim means «Lord of Breakthrough.» Yes, sir. It’s like God is saying, «You know me as Jireh. You know me as Nissi. You know me as Rohi. You know me as Rafa. You know me as M’kaddesh. You know me as Tzevaot. But you need to know that I am also Baal-perazim. It is in my nature to bring breakthroughs.»

Okay, that’s not the kind of celebration I’m referring to, so maybe I need to give you another explanation of what I mean when I say breakthrough. Here it is. Here’s a working definition: a breakthrough is a sudden advancement. If all you want is a slow move, then be quiet. But if you need God to do something suddenly, it’s a sudden—watch this—dramatic shift. This isn’t something He just does quickly; it’s something He does dramatically and drastically. This isn’t a mediocre move; this isn’t something that can be attributed to anyone besides an eternal, omnipotent, omniscient God. He says, «What I’m going to do when I give you a breakthrough is so radical that not only are others confused, you’re confused. It is a sudden, dramatic advancement—that’s a quantum leap.» Did you hear what I just said? God doesn’t just order your steps; God orchestrates your leaps!

I told you that when you’re a person of faith, every year can be a leap year. This is my year of upgrade. I’m not just stepping this year; it takes too long. I’m leaping! This is my year to cover more ground. It’s sudden, dramatic advancement or development. So, a breakthrough isn’t just when God changes a thing. Yes, sir, it’s also when God changes me. Yes, sir. So David is teaching us that your God is the Lord of that. Yes, sir! Sudden, dramatic advancement or development. Sudden, dramatic advancement or development.
