Alright, grab your Bibles and open them to the very first book of the Bible: the Book of Genesis, chapter 37. Go to your Galaxy, Samsung, Android, iPhone 6, 5, or 4; your iPad, your Mini, your notebook-whatever it is-and turn to Genesis chapter 37. I want to start reading at verse 12. Alright, verse 12: «Then his brothers went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.» And Israel said to Joseph, «Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.» So he said to him, «Here I am.» Then he said to him, «Please go and see if it is well with your brothers and well with the flocks, and bring back word to me.» So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he went to Shechem. Now a certain man found him, and there he was wandering in the field, and the man asked him, saying, «What are you seeking?» So he said, «I am seeking my brothers; please tell me where they are feeding their flocks.» And the man said, «They have departed from here, for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.'» So Joseph went after his brothers and found them in Dothan. Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, «Look, this dreamer is coming! Come, therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit, and we shall say some wild beast has devoured him. We shall see what will become of his dreams.» I want you to look at your neighbor. See you? This is what I want to talk about today: «We shall see what will become of your dreams.» Say it to the person on the other side: «We shall see what will become of your dreams.» Alright, you can be seated.
Today 's message is a narrative message, which means I’m going to tell you a story. This is a message where I don’t have points to give you. I’m not going to provide delineated points like I normally do, but there are going to be several things that I pray the Spirit of God says to you while I am ministering today. I want to talk about dreams. I want to talk about dreams-because people be dreaming-and oftentimes, people come up to me and tell me their dreams. «Pastor, I had a dream; what does it mean?» And I tell them all the same thing every time: «I don’t know. I don’t know what your dreams mean. I don’t have the gift to interpret dreams.» Dreams could mean a lot of things. A dream could be a foretaste or an indication of your future; or it could mean you ate too much before you went to bed that night. I’m not sure what the dream means, but I am sure that God does use dreams on occasion to reveal things to people. The Bible is full of people who had dreams. Jacob had a dream; Pharaoh had a dream; Solomon had a dream; Daniel dreamed; Joel prophesied that in the latter days, young men would dream dreams and see visions. Joseph had a dream about his fiancée and her pregnancy. The wise men had a dream about not returning to the king after Jesus was born. Pilate 's wife had a dream. We could look at a whole bunch of stories about dreams, but I want to focus today on this narrative story about Joseph-Joseph the dreamer.
Now, I thought I should talk about him because I also want to say, before I forget, that dreams don’t only happen when you sleep. Sometimes, God will give you a dream of something He wants to do or accomplish in your life, even with your eyes wide open. You don’t have to go to sleep to have a dream. Some of you have lost the ability to believe that your dream can become a possibility. Some of you have stopped dreaming. Say Amen if you all say Amen together. You 've stopped dreaming. You 've stopped believing that the thing you hoped for as a child could become a reality. The Lord told me today to talk to you. I don’t normally like to talk about things like this, but I feel so impressed by God to address you because there’s somebody in here today — maybe you held up the other 4,000 people in here so I can talk to you. You held everybody else up; they have to sit through this sermon because God is trying to say something to you. He wants you to re-engage your dreams now. I wanted to talk about this through the life of Joseph. Joseph is a fascinating person because he has an interesting life. Allow me to tell you the story of his life, and then I’ll sit down and be done.
Joseph was a man who started off as a child at the young age of 17. As a matter of fact, Joseph was his father’s favorite child. He was one of 12 sons that his father had, but he was his father’s favorite child because he was born to his father’s favorite wife and was born in his old age. So when he was born and growing up, he was his father’s favorite child, and his father gave him a multicolored coat. It was a sign that this was his favorite child. He gave him this multicolored coat …
