Thank you all for being here tonight. I want to get right into the lesson. Thank you to the praise and worship team for turning it over to us. We are continuing in our series, and tonight, from Hebrews 6, we have been going through the foundational principles of Scripture-foundational things we should understand and know. Verse one says, «Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of…». Let 's not have to go back over this again: repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrines of baptism, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgments. Those are the six we’ve discussed: repentance from dead works, faith toward God, and doctrines of baptism. Tonight, we’re on number four: the laying on of hands. I believe the will of the Lord is for us to go back to the days when we used to lay hands on people, and we’re going to start that tonight. We lay hands on sick people, but I think there are some demons we need to cast out of some of these other people over here.
I mentioned before that the progression of these foundational things is significant. It talks about repentance from dead works-it’s a lifestyle-faith toward God-it’s a lifestyle-as well as baptism. Again, these are all lifestyle things that should be part of our lives. I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but when we talked about baptisms, I looked at the five different types of baptisms, and we also discussed being filled with the Spirit. This does not mean it happens just once in your life; it is an ongoing experience where you should find yourself before the fountain of God, asking Him to fill you up with His power and presence regularly. It is what we need -amen? We need that divine presence of God flowing over us as a lifestyle. Then, there’s the laying on of hands, and that’s what we want to start discussing tonight.
Okay, let’s talk about what it means. The laying on of hands is a channel of divine impartation. It is God depositing supernaturally and spiritually in you His anointing, His power, and His gifting. It is an impartation. Now, I need to clarify right at the outset because some people think it is magic. They treat the laying on of hands like it’s abracadabra. It’s not that; it’s much more than just a concept or a mentality of being touched. It’s much bigger than that. It involves laying your hands on someone, but it also means embracing, understanding, and believing. I want to steer us away from thinking this is something superstitious or mysterious; I can’t quite remember the word I’m looking for-maybe " spooky.» It’s not; I don’t know why I’m worried about it. It will probably come to me on my way home tonight.
It’s about exposing yourself and being submitted, understanding that you want someone to lay their hands on you, but you also need to be under the authority. That is significant. If you don’t get your hands laid on you, having a divine impartation is more than just being touched; it involves being open to, receiving, embracing, believing, following, and applying to your life what you have been taught. So, it’s not just… if I thought all I had to do was lay my hands on people, and they would receive what God has given me, I would be smacking you all upside your heads, [Applause]-wow! If I thought that was all it took, it is bigger than that. Do you understand what I’m saying?
We have people come to this church who cannot receive the impartation because they are not embracing it; they don’t follow or believe. So, I don’t want you all to think it is just about being touched because it is greater than that. And when people came to Jesus- and we will see some scriptures here in a few moments — I want you to keep in mind that when Jesus laid His hands on people and they were healed, it was not just a physical touch. It was their faith in Him, their belief that He could do it. One man came to Jesus and said, " I have a sick child, and I believe if you just come and lay your hands…» It wasn’t just a physical touch; it was the belief to the core that He had the power to bring healing into his child’s life.
Thank you all very much; I appreciate that. Now, let’s look at these scriptures. Let 's go to Romans 1:11. Again, the Apostle Paul writes to the church in Rome, and he says in verse 11, «For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gifts so that you may be established.» There is an impartation. This is the point I want you to see: it is indeed an impartation; it has meaning and significance, and it is a part of divine impartation. Let 's look at 1 Timothy 4:14. I hope I’m not going too fast for you all; I want to do this.
