Good evening, good evening, good evening! Thank you, everybody, for joining us tonight. I am so grateful for your presence and for you being with us. May the Lord bless all of you. I hope you’re having a great day. In the name of the Lord, I am thankful and excited for your participation tonight. I’m going to pray for a brief moment, and then we’ll dive right into Chapter 2 of Romans. For those who are joining us for the first time, we’re so glad to have you! Let me give a shout-out to all of our people across the country and around the world who are joining us for our Tuesday night Bible studies. I’m thrilled that we are going through the book of Romans. We covered Chapter 1 last week, and if you missed the opportunity to tune in to that, you might want to go back and watch it. Now we’re going to pick up in Chapter 2, and hopefully, you’ll be able to stick with us if this is your first time here. So, let’s take a moment and pray.
Father, thank You for Your loving kindness to us and Your tender mercies. Thank You for awakening us and giving us the activities of our limbs. We are so grateful for all that You have done. We pray that You order our steps, guide our paths, and speak to our hearts today. In the precious and mighty name of the Lord Jesus, let Your perfect will prevail and let Your name receive all the glory. Let me be an instrument of Your righteousness. Father, I pray for the people of God who are part of this Bible study. Give them revelatory knowledge, open their eyes to what You want them to know, and how You want them to apply it. In the precious and mighty name of our resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
Alrighty, we are in Romans Chapter 2, and this chapter contains a total of 29 verses that we will be diving into. Let 's begin with Chapter 2. In fact, this first chapter of Romans deals with God’s judgment. Paul is writing to the church in Rome and communicates to them in these first 16 verses, covering God’s judgment. We 'll go through it verse by verse, one verse at a time. Let 's start with verse number one: «Therefore, you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge; for in whatever you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things .»
Here 's what I want to emphasize about verse one-it begins with the concept, the thought, the principle: the word " therefore.» What does that word " therefore» mean? It connects what he’s about to say with what he has just said. Anytime you see " therefore,» you should ask, «What is ' therefore' therefore?» It connects to what he has previously stated. He has just spent the last chapter discussing lifestyles, really addressing behavior and God’s judgment upon those who reject the gospel. He says, «Look, if you reject the gospel and refuse to embrace who Jesus is, let me tell you about judgment .» He mentions in Chapter 1 all these various things that will show up in a person’s life who rejects the gospel.
Then, in Chapter 2, verse 1, he says, «Therefore, you are inexcusable .» There is no excuse; he is saying there is no justification and no way to explain or relinquish what you have rejected when you refuse to put your faith in the Lord Jesus. But then he gives us a warning: «Therefore, you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge.» It is a warning to us not to be overly critical of others. I have met a lot of people in the church who are excessively critical and have placed themselves on some sort of righteous pedestal. In fact, I want to point this out: it’s a caution against judging others.
In verse two, he cautions us against judging, evaluating, and being critical of others. It says in verse two, «For whatever you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.» You 're so dogmatic and arrogant, as if you are incapable of sinning, of faltering, or of failing. It 's a warning from the Lord to say, «Be cautious,» because you are really revealing your own weaknesses and sins that you might be practicing yourself. That 's what verse one clearly declares to us: be cautious.
Then he says this in verse number two: «But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.» Here 's what he’s saying: when God makes a judgment, and He is the righteous judge, His judgment is based on truth. It 's not based on hearsay, speculation, or gossip you heard…
