Keion Henderson - Trusting the Dream

Can you turn with me to Matthew chapter one? We’re going to read verses 18 through 25. Matthew chapter one, verses 18 through 25. Here 's what the Word of the Lord says: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she found out that she was with child of the Holy Ghost. Joseph, her husband, being a just man-somebody said he’s just a man-and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, «Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.» Now all of this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, «Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,» which is interpreted, «God with us.» Then Joseph, being raised from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him and took unto him his wife, and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son, and he called His name Jesus.

I want you to go back and look right around verse 19, where it says that Joseph decided to put her away, and he was just a man. In verse 20, it says, «But while he thought on these things, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.» Notice Joseph couldn’t handle this news while awake; he couldn’t process it with his eyes open because there are some things that God will only tell you in a dream. Today, I want to talk on this subject: Trusting the Dream. If there’s anybody here that has a dream or a vision, God is going to show you something. It’s not going to make sense; it’s going to blow your mind, and it’s going to look foolish to everybody else. But the word of the Lord today is that no matter how crazy it looks and no matter how big it is, give your neighbor a high five and keep trusting the dream. You may be seated in the presence of the Lord.

Trusting the dream-dreaming is the conversation between the subconscious and the conscious mind. Really, dreams, in essence, are bridges that allow us to move back and forth between what we think we know and what we actually know. Dreams, if you would be honest, allow us to play out our pain and even revisit our fantasies absent the judgment of other people’s realities. You have dreamed about people you wouldn 't dare tell your spouse about-don’t get quiet. Discernment, this is going to take a while. So dreams are safe places because you get a chance to think about who you want, when you want, and how you want, without the fear of judgment. See, dreams are a judgment-free zone; the only investigator of your dreams is you. Many of you have had dreams and then got up and acted like you didn’t think about them recently, because your dreams are safe places. If you don’t tell them, nobody knows. If you don’t expose them, nobody can give their opinion.

And so, oftentimes, you have these dreams. Joseph had a dream; in fact, it was his dream that got him in trouble. Let 's not get ahead of ourselves. Every person in here at one point in time had a dream. Martin Luther King had a dream. Oftentimes, the dream does not come to fruition in real time, but it allows us to be in the present and visit our future. Your dreams are always bigger than your reality. If your dream is not bigger than your reality, wake up! It’s a waste of your time. You always have this thing in your mind, and I don’t know if this sermon is for everybody, but there are at least three or four hundred people in here that have something that your mind is so big, you can’t even tell anybody yet. It’s so crazy that if you were to utter the words of what you really intend to do, they would tell you you’re crazy. The reason why people rain on your dreams is that their lives are full of nightmares.

You know there is a difference; they both happen in the same mental state, but one brings life that you may have it more abundantly, and the other one reminds you of who you are not, what you don’t have, and what you can never do. So whatever happens in your life, be careful not to allow anybody to get in the driver’s seat of your dream, because people who don’t think like you and don’t have the faith you have can turn your dream into a nightmare. You have to make sure that you’re surrounded by other dreamers. As a matter of fact, just look down your row and make sure you’re sitting next to a dreamer because by the time this sermon is over, I’m going to infuse you with the power to accumulate what’s necessary to bring your dream to pass.

And you don’t even need to be in the vicinity of someone who doesn’t see on the level you see. The person sitting next to you is responsible for you today, so just touch them and say, «Neighbor, who are you? I want to know who you are. I want to know how you think because there are at least fifty other seats I can take. I will go sit in.»
