It’s one thing to know that there’s a gift inside of you. It’s another to walk confidently in it. Learn how to overcome the pressure to be perfect and manage the gifts God’s given you
Today, I’ve got a word for you, and it’s called «Save It for Later.» That 's what I want you to do; I want you to save it for later. So let me ask you a question: Have you ever had an experience with someone who had the wrong perception of you? I don’t have enough time for you to answer that question in the affirmative, but I’m going to ask the question again. Have you ever had an experience with someone who had the wrong perception of you? Have you ever done something with good intent, but it wasn’t received the way you intended? You did a good deed, but they didn’t recognize it. You apologized, but they didn’t think it was authentic. You actually gave out of the depths of your heart, yet they did not receive it from the depths of theirs. It 's basically a question, and this is what I’m asking you: Have you ever been misunderstood? That is one of the deepest, darkest, and most hurtful feelings on earth-to be misunderstood. Because all of us want to be known for the motive behind our actions. The only reason why I ask you, «Have you ever been misunderstood?» is because if you have, you are indeed in great company. Without giving you all of the examples or doing what the old church would call «calling the roll,» I’ll just get right to Jesus. This man was the most misunderstood man on earth. Here he comes to seek and save that which is lost, and he’s being told that he would be crucified by those whom he sought not to lose. Jesus was a misunderstood man. When I think about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, as we talked about on Sunday-and I encourage you to go back and watch the replay — we find that when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, over 600 men came to get him. Now, the Bible says they were Roman soldiers and the temple police, so it was like the FBI and local law enforcement all coming to get him. If you’ve ever been in certain neighborhoods or grown up in certain areas of town, you understand the idea of over-policing. They will send so many cars and so many cops after one particular person who seems not to be a threat. This is over-policing. It’s just Jesus and a few hundred inches away-or maybe a few yards away-are three disciples who are caught up in prayer. All of a sudden, they look up, and there are 600 men with lanterns, torches, and wooden sticks to beat and take into captivity one man whose name is Jesus. Did it take 600 people to come get three disciples and one rabbi? I mean, what registry can we look in to find out where Jesus had a registered knife? Where do we look to see where Jesus used a sword to hurt anybody? Where do we see in the scripture where Jesus used his power to cause havoc? We don’t see it. We see people trying to provoke him, but we see him never saying a word. We see people sending him horror, and in reaction, he gives humility. So why 600 people? The reason why they sent 600 people, as we discussed in our last message on Sunday, is that they saw the enormity of the gift of God, and the attack came in proportion to the value as the size of the gift. If you are dealing with a large attack right now, it’s because the devil understands that you have a great gift inside of you. If you have been ostracized, it’s because you are greatly gifted. If you have been imprisoned like Paul, it’s because you have been greatly gifted. If you go back and read the scriptures in Genesis, when Joseph first got his initial coat, it was just like that of all of his brothers, and you never see that Joseph had a problem. When did Joseph’s problems start? The moment his father gave him a purple coat. That purple coat represented the giftedness or the favor that was on his life. And look at this: The moment he gets his coat, his troubles start. The Bible says that his brothers take him out into the middle of nowhere, rip his coat up, soak it in blood, and then tell everybody that he had been eaten by a ferocious animal because of his coat. Then we find out that somehow that coat must have been replaced by Potiphar, because the Bible says that when he gets to Potiphar’s house, Mrs. Potiphar grabs the coat-listen-grabs two coats, and Joseph runs and leaves one behind. Did you hear the words that came out of my mouth? Think about this: His father gave him a coat, but the Bible specifically says that his brothers took the coat off of him, ripped it to shreds, dipped it in blood, took it back home, and told their father that an animal had eaten him. Now we see Joseph in Potiphar’s house with another coat. Wait a minute-I thought his coat was torn. Certainly, if it was purple, then it’s not purple now because when you take purple and dip it in red blood, you get an entirely different color. It’s probably some sort of navy blue now. So how does he have a coat that’s ripped apart, soaked in blood, and then we see him in another scene with another coat? It’s because the enemy doesn’t know that God has many coats, and everywhere you go, you’re going to get a coat. If you work at McDonald's, you’ll end up being the manager.
