What I want to talk about today is part four of this series. First of all, I cannot tell you all the ways I have seen how writing down your vision works so powerfully in your life. There are things that I had hoped for and dreamed about for years that didn’t start coming into my life until I wrote them down and began reading and reflecting on them. Writing puts it on record and lets your soul know you’re serious. Reading it over and over again moves your life in that direction. So, I know what to say yes to and what to say no to; it’s all written right there. Do you understand? How many people understand what I’m saying? This is such a powerful thing. It is not just powerful in our lives; the power of what we write is significant in every sector of life and business. Think about it: even in the business world, where there are debates, conflicts, and fighting—whether over a contract or in policy-making—when lawyers get involved, they want to know what is written: what does the contract say? There is power in what is written in law, business, policy, and your life. When God gives you a dream or an idea, write it down and don’t put it away. Keep it in front of you so you continue to reflect on it. I’m telling you, I have seen my life magnetized toward those things; I wouldn’t tell you if it weren’t true.
What I want to talk about today is that we don’t mind writing down our desires; we want a house, a spouse, a car. What we often hesitate to write down is that hard thing that God is telling us to do—the thing we may be willing to write down but are afraid to pursue because of what it might cost us. That’s what I want to talk to you about today. I want to discuss the kind of vision that scares us, the vision we hesitate to move forward with, because that’s part of what Moses is dealing with as we return to chapter three. Now, I want to start where I left off in part three, which was almost a month ago. I closed part three of this series by saying God wants to do in your life through you what He has done for you. One of the ways you can know what God wants to use you to do is to look at what He has done for you. If you’re uncertain about your assignment, you don’t have to look any further than what you’ve survived.
We get this from Exodus chapter 3, verse 4; God calls Moses’ name twice, which is significant. He says, «Moses, Moses.» That is significant when you understand what Moses' name means. Moses' name means «to be drawn out, ” and he was given that name because, as an infant, he was on the Nile River, and someone drew him out of that river and saved his life from imminent death. So, when we get to Exodus chapter 3 and God gives him a vision, He says to him: „Draw out, draw out.“ When we reach verse 10, God tells him, „Now I want you to do for Israel, My people, what I want you to do for them, what I did for you. Just as I drew you out, I want you to draw them out of Egyptian bondage.“ That’s a clue. I want to give you some clues on how you can know your purpose. I am going to give you six of them.
This is how you can know if you’re struggling to identify your life’s purpose, assignment, or calling:
Here’s the first one, which is connected to what I just said: the experience clue. What have you experienced in life? What have you gone through that was so deep, difficult, and dark that you know it was only God who brought you out of it? Everybody in here has a story like that. Others may not know it, but you know the reason you’re sitting here is not just because you’re fine and able; it’s because God was merciful, gracious, and powerful. He intervened, protected you, and delivered you. If you know that’s true, say Amen.
So, whatever you learned from that experience, no matter what lesson or principle you gained, someone else will go through the same thing, and they need what you have. You are qualified. For example, when someone is going through something really difficult in life and they share it with people, most people will say, „Man, that’s tough! I’ll be lifting you up in prayer.“ This is usually not even true when someone says, „I’ll keep…“
