If you are going through a difficult season in your life, it’s not because God wants to punish you. Sometimes, your environment is your assignment. God has strategically positioned you there not to complain about the situation but to change the situation with your words. In Ezekiel 37, Prophet Ezekiel was in the valley of dry bones. God did not speak to the bones; He waited for Ezekiel to speak to the bones before there was a change. God did not give you authority and power for show or to impress anyone. If you want to change what you are seeing, you better start to change what you are seeing. The power is in your mouth!
On your way to yourself, tell your neighbor this is not a show. This is not a show; this is not a show. So, there are four major prophets in the Old Testament: Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Isaiah. It’s very important to notice that, of all four major prophets and also, by extension, the Minor Prophets, Ezekiel is a very different type of prophet. You can tell he is unique; he’s unlike any other prophet. Ezekiel’s prophetic ministry was unique, and I just want to say here that there is nothing wrong with being different. Different becomes a problem when people don’t understand you. When people don’t understand you, being different irritates them. So, make sure you understand yourself before people understand or misunderstand you. I would dare say that now and then, you need to understand that God made you different to make a difference. Because if you are not different, how can you make a difference? You are different to make a difference. I want you to preach to yourself this Sunday morning and say, «I am different, different to make a difference.» Some people don’t know how to speak to themselves. Say, «I am different to make a difference.» Now, let’s make it better: «I am different, different to make a difference.» People call you crazy; God calls you chosen. Your difference is your value. People pay for your value. Looking at the Book of Ezekiel, this book is so crazy. Do you know that at one point, God told Ezekiel in Ezekiel 3:1 to eat the scroll? A scroll is a book—eat the scroll and make sure he fills his stomach with the scroll. How crazy is it if you wake up one morning and God says, «What we have for breakfast is the scroll, ” not scrambled eggs, but the scroll; not pancakes and bacon, but the scroll; not jollof rice for Africans, but the scroll? That’s fine, but you see how crazy it is? At one point, God also tells Ezekiel to be dumb—he actually makes him mute. Think about it: I’m a prophet; I’m supposed to be speaking, declaring words, and all of a sudden, I’m mute. In Ezekiel 3:26, he makes him mute. This is the same Ezekiel mentioned in Ezekiel 4:4, where God tells him, „You are going to lie on one side of your back for 390 days.“ Why? God says, „I don’t know.“ Okay, that’s not what God says, but he tells him that after 390 days, he wants him to turn over and lie on his other side for 40 days. Strange book; it doesn’t even make sense. I can go on and on. Ezekiel was different; Ezekiel was special; Ezekiel was unique. He was different because, out of all the prophets in the Bible, Ezekiel is the only Hebrew prophet who received his prophetic ministry or calling while he was in exile. Think about this: while he was a captive, God called him. I want this to sink in: while he was a captive, God called him. Ezekiel was a slave and still special. Ezekiel was a captive but still called. Ezekiel was a prisoner but still chosen and powerful; he was a hostage but still a hero because God’s hand was upon his life. This means that distance cannot disconnect you from your destiny. It does not matter what people do or where they take you. Once God’s hand is upon your life, what God has spoken and said over you will come to pass. Your calling is more powerful than your chains; your calling is more powerful than your condition. What God put in you is more powerful than where anyone puts you. He was a slave; he was a captive, yet God called him chosen. Look at your neighbor and tell them, „I’m chosen.“ Now look at the other neighbor; if that neighbor doesn’t seem like they are chosen, look at another neighbor and say, „I’m chosen.“ Can all the chosen people make some noise? Make some sound in the house if you know that you have been chosen, that you have been picked regardless of your location. I want you to open your mouth and make some noise in this place. Chosen noise! He picked me regardless of where I am. I’m so excited and happy that regardless of where I am, the blessings of God can locate me. You can put me in the dungeon; it doesn’t matter where you put me. God’s hand is upon my life. It doesn’t matter where I go; God’s blessings are upon my life because His calling is more powerful than my condition. Somebody say, „I’m chosen; I’m chosen; I’m chosen; I am chosen!“ Ezekiel was chosen to be a prophet, but before we rush this, it’s important to note that many people don’t even know this: Ezekiel was both a priest and a prophet. Most of us know about Ezekiel’s prophetic ministry; very few know about his priestly ministry. Ezekiel was actually a priest before he became a prophet. Did you know that Ezekiel 1:3 tells us that Ezekiel was a priest before he became… In fact, some scholars say that while he was in Israel, he was serving as a priest then.
