When we sense love in a place, we are actually sensing that God is present. We may encounter God alone, in small groups or in a large assembly of people.
What makes a house a home is an atmosphere of love. What makes a building a church is the atmosphere of love, and God is love. When we sense love at church, we are really sensing the presence of God. He wants us to “encounter” Him.
Exodus 25:22 says, “And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you.” God wants to not only be with us, but to speak to us—for us to encounter Him. The Bible tells us that people have encountered God in three places: alone (Genesis 28:16–17), in small groups of people (Matthew 18:20) and in the large assembly (Revelation 7:9). All three of these “encountering places” are important in our walk with God.
