In talking with this team, one of the things they have shared with me regarding this wave of the Spirit in our church is this grace in the season for deliverance. I wanted to discuss it as we move into deliverance more. I wanted to talk about it because, first of all, deliverance is an absolutely beautiful thing; it’s an amazing thing; it’s a glorious thing. However, you need to understand it, know what it is and what it’s not, and learn how to flow in it. If you don’t understand it, you could get yourself in trouble spiritually. There are people in the scripture, in the book of Acts, who tried to perform deliverance because they saw Paul and Peter do it. They thought they would try to make some money from it. They approached some individuals who were demon-possessed and said, «I adjure you by the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches, come out.» The man with the demon turned, and I’ll just say the end of the story: they were beaten badly, stripped of their clothes, and ran out of the house naked. I don’t mean naked and ashamed like in Genesis; I mean naked and full of shame. So, first, it’s to protect you from dealing with something you don’t understand, and it’s not to scare you. You just have to respect godly things and kingdom things. The second reason is so that you don’t freak somebody out. It doesn’t have to be weird; it doesn’t have to be loud.
I wanted to begin by laying a good foundation for us, even though I can’t teach deliverance in its entirety in one session. We can understand what deliverance is because, at the end of the day, it is a beautiful thing when seen and done right. It’s absolutely gorgeous because of what a person becomes when they are free. There is a beauty in people that you won’t ever see until they’re free, filled with the Holy Ghost. You will have a particular perspective about someone, and they might get on your nerves. However, who they truly are is often hidden behind what they need to be delivered from. It’s almost like we’re talking about a beautiful flower, a gorgeous person underneath, but you can’t see that because they are buried by what is holding them down. The reason why it’s beautiful is that, when deliverance is ministered, they emerge, and you will realize, «Oh my God, you were inside there! I just thought you were a hellion; you used to get on my last nerve! I hated you!"—no, I’m kidding, we don’t hate anybody.
So, ultimately, it’s beautiful. Let’s talk about it. You can’t discuss deliverance without discussing the kingdom because deliverance is literally just a byproduct of the expression of the kingdom of God. So, let’s go to the Bible—Mark chapter 1, verses 21-28. I gave the team a mistake; I said one through 28. You know my thing: you can read the whole Bible, you’ll find it! But we can just start at 21. When I was in church, I used to talk about how I would preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We say we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that’s cool, I get it, that’s fine. But Jesus did not preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ; he only preached one gospel, and it was the Gospel of the Kingdom. So, if you say, «I’m preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ,» that’s fine, but he literally taught and preached one subject his entire ministry, and he did not deviate from it. It was so vast and expansive that he had countless ways to discuss it, but it was always one subject matter—one message.
The kingdom is so vast, so expansive, and so voluminous that you don’t need to preach anything else. Everything we will ever need to know, everything we will ever need to see is already in the kingdom. This is why Jesus said, «What’s the first thing you should seek?» Let me back up. Before he says that, he says to take no thought about what you will eat, drink, or wear. Stop that! He says life is more than that. He’s like, «I already know what you need; I understand this human dynamic.» He says, «Seek first the kingdom and his righteousness.» Seek the kingdom in alignment, and all other things will be added to you. So when I’m aligned with the kingdom, I’m rich. I’m rich in wisdom, rich in revelation, rich in power, and rich in resources.
