David Diga Hernandez - Holy Spirit: The Breath of Breakthrough
On this special live edition of Spirit Church, David Diga Hernandez ministers on the Holy Spirit’s ability to bring breakthrough to your life and ministry.
We want to talk to you about multiplication, which you see in your life. You’re going to notice that there is a progression in your spiritual walk; there is movement in your spirituality. I want to discuss the Holy Spirit, the breath of breakthrough you see in your life. You progress! My goal, and what I tell myself, is that I want to be more like Jesus today than I was yesterday. I want to be more like Jesus in this moment than I was in the last moment. While faithfulness brings about spiritual progress, which is good, a move of the Holy Spirit, or a breath from the mouth of God, will bring about breakthrough. You see, faithfulness and consistency bring about progressive growth and addition to your spiritual walk. God adds to you as you remain faithful to Him. God adds to you as you remain obedient to His word, walking in holiness and hearing His voice. God will add to you, but there are also special moments—pivotal seasons of life—in which God will breathe upon a situation, and it will go from addition to multiplication. It will go from progress to sudden and dramatic transformation. That is the difference between faithfulness and the miraculous. You see, anything that God blesses, He multiplies. Think about what He told Adam and Eve: He said, «Be fruitful and multiply.» When Jesus was pressed by the thousands who were hungry and the disciples were unable to buy them food, what did Jesus do? He took the bread, He took the fish, He blessed it, and it was multiplied, so that everyone had their fill and there was an abundance left over. This is what God does. So while we are to remain faithful and have things added to our spiritual walk, and while we are to progress day by day, moment by moment, becoming more and more like Jesus, there are also moments when God will bring breakthrough. The miracle that you thought was far away, the miracle that you imagined was at a distance, is closer than you think. You see, when you progress at your current pace, you may tell yourself, «Well, it’ll be a couple of years before I get there,» or «It’ll be a few years before I get there,» or «Maybe a couple of months down the line, and I’ll get that miracle I’ve been praying for.» But the truth is that when breakthrough comes, the timeline goes out the window. Why? Because your pace changes. You go from the gradual progress of day-to-day to the sudden breath of God bringing about breakthrough. Now, am I promising that your life will be perfect? No. Am I promising that you are going to have no trials? No. Am I saying that the gospel is all about you and what you can get and the riches that God has? No, we don’t serve God for what He gives to us. But the reality is that God wants to bless His children now. He doesn’t want us to put those blessings first; those blessings should never become the center of the gospel. That is the prosperity gospel. The prosperity gospel says that the blessings are the center, that the riches are the center, that what I can get from Him is the center of the will of God. But the truth is that sacrifice is at the center. My cross is at the center. Jesus said you have to pick up your cross if you want to follow Him. So I’m not promising something unrealistic or that the Bible doesn’t declare. But I am saying that there are places that God wants to take you; there are breakthroughs that God wants to give you that will take you from where you are to where He wants you to be, and that suddenly will come upon you. You may say, «That is so far away, that’s at a great distance.» But if you will put your faith in God, the Holy Spirit will move in a way that you never imagined possible, and your breakthrough will come. I want to go to Joshua chapter 6. I’m going to read just a few verses to you now. You have likely heard this portion of Scripture, and you’ve heard it preached many, many times. But what I want to do is bring a fresh perspective to this very familiar passage of Scripture. Joshua chapter 6, beginning at verse 1, the Scripture says this: «Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go in or out. But the Lord said to Joshua, 'I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day, you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. When you hear the priests give one long blast on the ram’s horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.'» Now, this is a very familiar portion of Scripture, but let me set the context here. The children of Israel are standing on the verge of entering the Promised Land. All that God had promised to give them was just on the other side of this wall. This wall of Jericho was a strong wall. They did not imagine that they could pass that wall; even if they were to try and overtake it, it would take them weeks, possibly months, maybe even years if the battle raged on long enough. And they realized what they were up against was…
