The deliverance ministry of Jesus is the standard, and when you look at it, you’ll notice that it was simple, straightforward, and powerful. His authority over demonic powers is absolute. You can drive out demons just like Jesus drove them out; that same power, the same Holy Spirit, dwells in you. Jesus did not rely on superstitious rituals, nor did He require long, drawn-out sessions to expel demons from people. He did it instantly and absolutely. He is our example.

Now, if you want to drive out demons like Jesus did, you need to live the kind of lifestyle He lived. You must learn the basics before the battle. We often imagine that we will apply a lot of spiritual warfare teachings in the moment we confront demons. The reality is that the battle takes place before that moment. You must be prepared with the basics before you go to expel demonic beings. As I said, demon possession is real, and as believers, we must set the captives free. We must drive demons out of people; no one else can do it but the sons of God.

Admittedly, the basics don’t always seem exciting. I think they are thrilling once you understand them, but they may not appear so at face value. However, it takes doing the seemingly boring basics to have true power. If you prepare yourself before entering that moment of exorcism, your authority will be absolute when you step into that moment. The power you carry will drive out demons. I’m telling you, like sandcastles under an ocean wave, the demonic powers will dissolve under the power of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 8:16 says, «When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were possessed by demons, and He cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.» How did He do it? With a word! In my experience, demonic beings come out instantly as long as they know that you understand your authority. If you allow them their moment to make a show or talk back, they will take that opportunity. But when you, as a child of God, understand that there’s no fight to be had, demonic beings are expelled instantly, just as Jesus did.

Now, here are some keys I want to give you to prepare for that moment. This will not come through superstitious techniques, gimmicks, or sessions. Instead, it will come through the basics. First, you must spend time in God’s presence. People who carry the glory of God aren’t concerned with spiritual warfare techniques. Why? Because the presence of God in them is what expels demonic beings from those who are demon-possessed. Acts 4:13 says, «The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.»

Can people say the same about you? Think about the story in Mark chapter 9, where the disciples in the valley could not cast out the demon in the boy. It was only when Jesus came down from the mountaintop that the demons were expelled. Peter and John were, of course, with Jesus at the mountaintop. The reason the disciples in the valley couldn’t cast out the demons was that they weren’t spending time with Jesus at that height. Only mountaintop believers can drive out demons in the valley. Walk in His presence; carry His presence, and His presence alone will expel demonic beings.

Now, please hear me when I say I have no reason to brag. I won’t brag on myself because everything God does through me is in spite of me. It’s all Him. I share this to encourage you. There was a time when I would pray for people who were demon-possessed, and it would take two, three, or four hours to get the demons out. But once I began to trust in the power of the Holy Spirit, once my eyes were opened to the authority God had given me, I no longer took that amount of time. In my experience now, when driving out demons, people receive their freedom instantly—within seconds, at most a couple of minutes. Why? Because of the power of the Holy Ghost.

If you come to our services, you’ll see that when people are delivered, it’s a very quick process. The person may scream, fall on the floor, maybe convulse for a little bit, and then get up rejoicing with their lives transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit—not my ability, but the power of the Holy Spirit. When I try to do it in my ability or effort, the process is different.
