Join me in your Bibles in the book of John, chapter number nine. We’re going to begin reading at verse number one: John, chapter number nine, verse number one. Can y’all tell I’m excited about this word this morning? You’re about to get all this. It looks smoky in here; I don’t know if that’s Jesus or the smoke machines, but all this—you’re about to get all the smoke this morning. John chapter number nine, verse one says this: As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, «Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?» «Neither this man nor his parents sinned,» Jesus said, «but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent us. Night is coming when no one can work.» I’m going to read verse four again: «As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work.»
All right, I want to pause for just a second. I want to tag a title to this text. I want you to wrap your head around it; I’m going to see if you’re social media savvy and if you have a good memory. Here’s the title for today’s text: «Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That.» Yeah, «Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That.» Family, as we leap into this lesson, I want to share with you a statement of significance, and I want you to make sure you take note of this because it is extremely pertinent to what I’m going to preach about today. That is, one of the biggest threats to us accomplishing our purpose — listen to me — is being busy with things that have nothing to do with it. I’m going to say it one more time; it bears repeating. One of the biggest threats to you and I accomplishing our purpose is being busy, preoccupied, consumed, divested in, and distracted by things that have nothing to do with it. I hope you understand what I’m trying to articulate because the enemy, who is a thief, obviously knows this. He realizes and recognizes that if he cannot destroy you, then his next mode of operation is to distract you so that you do not have the focus, attentiveness, and energy to give yourself to the thing that God placed and positioned you on this planet to accomplish.
I want you to catch this because it is incredibly important, family: bosses not only manage their lives. Look at me — bosses manage their time, because time management is life management. Did you hear what I said? If we’re going to make boss moves, we must become bosses in the way we manage our time. This is the way a wise man, a sage named Solomon, put it in Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verse number 1. This is what he says: «To everything, there is a season.» Listen to me, and a time — don’t miss it — «to every purpose under heaven.» Don’t miss the lesson in the last clause: to everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. Don’t miss it! So then, purpose has a time. Purpose has a time frame, and so it is up to you and I to steward the time that God has given us so that we can accomplish the purpose for which we have been created.
I want you to catch this now: purpose has a time, so it is up to you and I to steward the time that God has given us so that we can accomplish the purpose for which we’ve been created. Bosses don’t just manage their lives — they manage their time, because time management is life management. And I think—come here—I think this is the essence of what the ultimate boss, the biggest boss you’ve seen thus far, models for us here in John 9. In John chapter 9, we are exposed to an incident in the life of an individual that Jesus encounters. This individual, listen to me, is dealing with an ailment in his eyes. The text says he has been blind since birth. Don’t miss this; don’t miss it — he has been blind since birth. This means there has never been a season in his life where he had vision. So, physically, he’s blind, but metaphorically he represents a person who is living life with no vision.
Now watch this; I want you to catch this. He’s blind physically, but it can represent blindness spiritually and emotionally. Spiritually and emotionally, it can represent, watch this, those who are uninterested, unaware, or unsure about what they’re supposed to be doing with their life. And you can tell if they’re uninterested, unaware, or unsure by what they’re doing with their time. Did you hear what I just said? Right? So, the blindness represents someone who is uninterested, unaware, or unsure about what they’re supposed to be doing with their life. Now, when you have someone that’s uninterested, that’s a little dangerous because that means that person has made an idol out of their own interest. See, when I’m uninterested in God’s plan for my life, it means I want God to bless my plan instead of me discovering His. And the reason that God always warns us against doing things like this is because God knows idols always disappoint. He’s saying, «I don’t want you to put anything before me because I’m the only one you can really rely on.» Those idols, they’re always going to make promises to you that they don’t deliver on, and you’re going to think that it’s real. And you’re going to wake up…
