I want to talk about this subject during our time together, Queen B. I want to discuss Queen B and our time together today as a family. It can be said and suggested that when you discover purpose, you not only uncover who you’ve been called to be, but you also identify the problems you’ve been created to solve. Purpose is always an answer to a problem. In other words, your arrival on this earth is to address some issues that would not have been addressed had you not been here. Therefore, reaching your redemptive potential and accomplishing your purpose is uniquely and incredibly important, not just for you but for the world that will be better because of the problems that you solve. And that’s what this series, «Hidden Figures,» is all about. It is our attempt to encourage, inspire, and unleash every individual, male and female, to passionately pursue the purpose for which they were created so they can address the problems they’ve been called to solve.

Watch this: I believe, ladies and gentlemen, that if purpose is an answer to a problem, and you refuse to allow others to freely walk in their assignments, you are perpetuating the existence of problems that would be solved if you moved out of the way. Therefore, when you get in someone’s way of accomplishing their purpose, you’re not just in their way; you’re getting in God’s way. Did you hear what I just said? Could that not be why God told an individual named Abraham, «I’ll bless those that bless you, but I’ll curse those that curse you»? Not so that Abraham could become a spoiled, egotistical, self-centered, narcissistic spiritual leader, but God wanted Abraham to know and understand that as long as you are carrying out my agenda, you have my assistance. So when people start messing with my agenda, they’re messing with you, and when they’re messing with you, they’re messing with my agenda. And when you mess with my agenda, I have to get involved.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that especially as we attempt to recover from, survive through, and thrive after a global pandemic, the earth is going to need everybody that is willing and able to walk in the fullness of their assignments, including women. I argue, ladies and gentlemen, that because of patriarchy in our theology, we have created unbiblical barriers and unnecessarily obstacles. We have confused culture with Christianity and restricted God’s creation from making the contributions to the earth that He has called and created them to make. Watch this: if you’re reading your Bible objectively, you see they have always been making those contributions. Did you hear what I just said? Yes, this isn’t necessarily an attempt to create something new; it’s our willingness to align ourselves with something that’s always existed. You cannot read the Bible objectively and not see the hidden figures. What’s that? We talked about it last week. Those are the people who, watch this, are making contributions that are not seen so that those making a difference and are being seen can be recognized.

We see it all throughout Scripture, how God has used these hidden figures. I mean, you cannot read your Bible objectively and not see this reality. We see it all throughout Scripture. We see God using women to solve problems in the background that help people on the forefront. All throughout Scripture, we see this. We see it with Moses' mother. We look at the life and leadership of Moses on one side, but we do not see the contributions of his mother on the other side. We would not be reading about Moses parting the Red Sea had it not been for his mother, who had a holy hunch during a genocide that was taking place against Hebrew male babies, and said, «God has something different for my baby. I don’t know what’s happening to everybody else’s child, but my child has an anointing to be an anomaly.» This woman, watch this, this anointed woman becomes an innovative woman. She takes reeds and makes a basket because that’s what you do when you’re a woman walking under the anointing—you get innovative. You use reeds, you make a basket. Y’all are talking to me now. You give a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and you’re able to employ that creative ingenuity that God gave you to save Moses’s life.

We see it with Abigail in 1 Samuel chapter 25 when her husband’s ego puts his family’s welfare in jeopardy. Abigail knows how to navigate in pursuit and finagle her way, and she saves the family while being assertive without being aggressive. She’s dynamic and not disrespectful; she saves her husband’s life, and he doesn’t even know she did. She’s behind the scenes fixing things he doesn’t know need fixing. If it weren’t for Abigail, David would have taken her husband’s life, but she knew how to work things out. While he was trying to figure it out, God was using her to work it out. Are you hearing what I’m saying? It made him no less of a husband, no less of a man, to allow God to use the asset that He placed in his life.

We see it with Moses’s mother; we see it with Abigail, and we even see it with an Old Testament prophet named Huldah. People don’t talk about her, but she’s in the Bible in 2 Kings chapter 22. The Bible states they were doing some cleaning in the temple when Israel was under the leadership of a king named Josiah, and they discovered the book, the law, the Bible.
