Here in Numbers chapter 14, this passage allows us to eavesdrop on one of the most disturbing conversations in Scripture. I’m going to say that one more time: in this passage, we get to eavesdrop on one of the most disturbing conversations in Scripture. If you just objectively observe what’s happening in this conversation, it should be disturbing. In this conversation, you see God having a discussion with Moses about the people Moses has leadership over, and He’s informing Moses that these people will not reach their redemptive potential. This is interesting. When I say «redemptive potential, ” I mean that when you get redeemed, your potential changes; there are some things you could not do before you got redeemed that you’re able to do afterward. Your potential changes, and God says to Moses that these people won’t reach it. That bothers me. He’s saying there are promises they won’t possess, prophecies that won’t be fulfilled, and potential that will not be realized. Because, Moses, when I was making those prophecies, when I was declaring those promises, I was declaring my preference. This is what I prefer to do, this is what I’m willing to do, this is what I want to do: I want to bless you in the city, I want to bless you in the field; I want to bless you in your going in and I want to bless you when you’re coming out. I want to bless you so that you’re the head and not the tail, I want to bless you so that you’re above only and not beneath, I want to bless you so that you’re the lender and not the borrower; I want to bless you so that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. But that’s my preference, and in order for my preferences to become your reality, it requires your participation. Even though I want you to live on another level, I have to let you live on the level you settle for. I don’t know who I’m talking to, but I believe I’m talking to some people in this room and online who are honest enough to admit they are in a season where they can declare that settling season is over. I’m allergic to settling; I’m breaking out in hives over settling. Let me speak to somebody here: God has been infecting some of you with a holy discontent. It is a divine frustration and agitation with what you used to be okay with, and now you’re confused because your standard has shifted. You haven’t even made an announcement to the people around you, but something inside of you says I don’t like this anymore, I can’t take this anymore, I don’t want this anymore. Yes, that’s a holy discontentment. It’s a divine frustration because God uses frustration as an indication that you no longer belong on the level you’re at. I said God uses frustration as an indication that you no longer belong on the level you’re at. So if you’re frustrated, praise. If you’re mad, praise. If you’re agitated, praise, because God is getting ready to push you out of the nest and into the next level. It’s my preferred will; there are aspects of my will, my sovereign will, that I will accomplish independent of human participation. I’m coming back, whether you want me to or not. He says, but there are some things that I want to do in your life that I will not do without your partnership. This is scary. He said this is scary. They come all the way out of Egypt to stay stuck. All those tears, all that pain without payment—you missed it. All of that pain without payment wasn’t worth it. So if they stay stuck, there’s no compensation for the agitation. You’re going to go through all of that pain and not get any payment from it. Somebody at home, shout, „Pay me!“ Yes, I’m not going to cry for nothing. I’m not going to go through all this heartache for nothing. I’m not going to have people walk out of my life for nothing. No, devil, you owe me something for this; you have to pay me. I’m not going to go through all of this and have it mean nothing. I want to speak to someone in here today who needs to have a mindset shift of anointed assertiveness and stop waiting for God or the devil to make something mean something. You make a decision: I’m getting ready to make this mean something. It’s scary; it’s scary; it’s scary because as God describes the people, He says some things that disturb me a little bit. Are you all ready? He says not one of those who saw my glory—whoa! I’m like, wait a minute; they had these authentic and unusual encounters with God. He said they saw my glory. Come on, they saw it. They saw Moses come down from the mountain with his face radiating from the weight of God’s glory. He said they saw me split the Red Sea. They saw Moses set up the tent and go to the tent every morning, and the elders stood as he went and talked with God, as God talked to him as a friend talks to a friend. They saw the glory and still were stuck; you misunderstood the purpose of it. God’s like, „Do y’all know the tent was set up in the wilderness, right?“ The wilderness represents a transitional season. I’ve got Bible; I’ve got Bible in Exodus chapter 13, verse 17. It says when Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through Philistine country, though.
