Somebody look at your neighbor and say, «He’s God! He’s God! He’s God! He’s God!» Look at him, Father, in the name of the Lord. Take these next few moments that belong to You. Speak to us, encourage us, challenge us, Almighty God. Have Your way, Father. In the name of Jesus, we pray that You would minister to Your people according to Your truth and the power of Your word. Allow Your perfect will to prevail. Bind that devil on every side. Heal somebody tonight in the name of Jesus. Loose shackles tonight. Let the name of Jesus get all of the glory and honor. In Jesus' name, Jesus' name, amen.
Open your Bibles to the Book of Revelation, chapter 1. I’m just going to talk about this for a few moments since we get out early tonight. I thought for a few moments about why people come; I know what drove and brought you to church-some drama in your life. While I know the church people look good and appear to have it all together, behind the scenes, beneath our facade and our faces, there’s drama. I understand you don’t want to confess it because we live in a day and age where people want to fake it till they make it. We don’t want to confess the reality of our circumstances. As a matter of fact, that’s how some people have been taught-that you must claim it, so we don’t want to acknowledge it. But somehow, in my heart, I believe God wants us to see the drama we’re in so that when we come out of it, we will be able to tell somebody what we 've been through.
When Peter got out of the boat while they were on the sea and their ship was in the middle of a storm, Jesus came walking to them. The Bible says in Matthew that Peter said, «Jesus, if that’s You, bid me to come.» He got out of the boat and started walking on the water to go to Jesus. He was walking on the water, but then he saw the boisterous winds and waves, and the scripture says he began to sink. I’ve heard many people preach this passage and say that he started sinking because he took his eyes off Jesus, but I don’t believe that’s the reason. I believe he started sinking because the winds and the waves, listen to this, spoke louder to him than what Jesus said to him. Y’all missed a great spot to shout, because what you need to hold on to in the midst of your trial is what God told you. There are times and seasons in your life when the only thing you can hold on to is what God said. You’ve got to hold on to it when everything around you is falling apart. You’ve got to cling to the word of God when they fire you from your job, when your spouse walks out, or when your children don’t behave. Sometimes the only thing you can hold on to is a word from God.
What he saw — the boisterous winds and waves — spoke louder to him. It was much more real to him than what God had said. Jesus told him to come. Peter got out of the water and walked on it, but suddenly what he saw spoke louder than what God had said. For some of you, that’s exactly where you are — in the midst of a situation where what you unfortunately see has spoken louder than what God has said. I don’t know who I’m preaching to tonight, but God kept Marcus Lamb in Texas so I could tell you tonight and encourage you that in the midst of whatever it is that has stressed you out, burned you out, and made you struggle, take your eyes off the drama and hold on to the word.
Now, looking back over my life, I’ve faced many trials and tribulations, situations where I didn’t know what would happen. But you’ve got to hold on to the word. The problem is we struggle to hold on because we forget who it is that has spoken to us. What I had to learn about God is that He will speak to me, and sometimes He’s speaking to you, but you may dismiss what is said because you don’t like the avenue through which it came. Who am I preaching to? I’m preaching to somebody here tonight. You dismiss what God has said, what the Lord has spoken to you, because you don’t like the channel it came through. But I came here to tell you tonight that whatever avenue God uses to bring the word to you, receive it, embrace it, love it, stand on it, trust it, and do what He said. Don 't dismiss it just because you didn’t like the person who said it, you didn’t like the way it was said, or you didn’t like the church it happened in. Hold on to the fact that God spoke to you! Yes, sir! Hallelujah! Lean over to your neighbor and say, «He 's preaching better than you’re saying amen! Go!»
