I want to talk about a subject, and I hope it helps you. I want to discuss this thought: «I asked for it.» That 's what I want you to know. I want you to be aware that some things don’t come until you ask for them. Just begin to speak something into your atmosphere now and say, «I ask for it. I ask for it.» So, we know this young lady named Hannah. We know her; she is a very well-known character in the Bible. I want to get right to the point: Hannah had an issue, and her issue was that she could not have a baby. The Bible says that she was barren. Now, we’ll get to Ephesians 6: 18 in a minute, because it will make sense. But the Bible says she is barren; she cannot have a child. One person may look at that and say, «Oh my God, that’s a terrible thing,» but it really puts Hannah in great company because there are great women in the Bible who could not produce. When they did produce, what they produced was extraordinary. Let 's look at Sarah: she was able to give birth in her 90s, maybe even 100, to a young man named Isaac, who was the promised seed from God, not Ishmael, who was born by Hagar. We’ll get into that later. There was a woman named Elizabeth who was barren into her 80s and 90s, but she was able to have a baby, and his name was John the Baptist. Look at all these women who couldn’t have babies in the time frame where women would like to conceive, and yet all of these barren women were able to produce. There is a litany of scripture about women who went through this inability to conceive, but his name reminds us of something. Here 's what the Bible says: his name is a reminder of how he was conceived. When he was born, his mother said, «I am going to name him Samuel,» and that’s important because Samuel means «because I asked God for him.» She said she would make sure that everybody knew that the only way she got Samuel was because she asked for it. She didn’t get him because of sexual intercourse, as she and her husband had been involved in that activity for years and nothing happened. She didn’t get him because she was lucky. She didn’t get him because she was healthy. She simply got the baby because she asked for it. I want you to read this scripture when you get an opportunity because the Bible says that she was inconsolable, that she prayed and cried. She prayed and cried. Now, Samuel is already in good standing because he is born into the earth. I don’t know how much money his mother had, and I don’t know how much land his father owned. I don’t know the aristocracy of his family; I don’t know those things, but I do know that this boy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth-not because they lived in a mansion, not because his mother had money in the bank, or his father had land and cattle. He was born blessed because he was born to a woman who knew how to pray. Yes, his mother was a praying mother, and I want to say this to anybody listening right now: anyone who has a mother who knows how to pray has an advantage in this world. Let me tell you something; there is nothing like a woman who knows how to pray. He was born to a mother who knew how to get down on her knees and beseech God until she got an answer. If you have a praying mother, you need to thank God. You did not survive because you made all the right decisions; while you were out there acting crazy, your mother was saying day and night, " Lord, keep angels over him.» You 're walking around here with your head held high as if your intelligence has kept you in the game, but let me tell you something: the devil had a plan coming that you didn’t know anything about. But because your mother was in the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues, walking around the house praying and putting oil on the doorknobs, and anointing your forehead while you slept as an infant, there are some of you right now who are walking in grace because your mama prayed for you. If it weren 't for Mary, Jesus would have been in trouble, but Mary was praying for her son, and he was the Messiah. Elizabeth was praying for her son, and he was the forerunner of Jesus. I need everyone listening to me today, and I know Mother’s Day was last week, but can we just pause for two weeks in a row and thank God for a praying mother? I know for a fact that I wouldn’t be standing here today if my mama didn’t know how to get into the presence of the Holy Ghost. Somebody ought to thank God for a praying mother. If you have a praying mother, you have an advantage in this life. At the time of Hannah’s prayer, you must understand that Israel was in what is called, listen, the period of the judges. Read Judges 21 when you get an opportunity. Here 's what happens during the period of the judges.
