Keion Henderson - Naked and Afraid

I want you to go to Genesis chapter 2, verse 25. Now, I want you to put a pin there, and then we’re going to skip over to Mark chapter 14, verse 51. So, we’re going to start here at Genesis 2: 25, and then we’re going to go over to Mark 14: 51. You know this one; I know you know this one because everybody knows this one. This is when Adam and Eve have sinned in the garden, and the Bible says that after they ate of the forbidden fruit, here is the consequence: they were both naked; the man and his wife were not ashamed. Go to the next verse, and now we’re in Mark 14: 51. The Bible says, «And there followed him a certain young man having a linen cloth cast about his naked body, and the young men laid hold on him.» Do you see that? Jesus is obviously there in the beginning. I know we don’t like to talk about it, but the Trinity is present, so Jesus is there in the beginning. In Genesis 2: 25, you see Adam and Eve naked, and Jesus looking for them, but now here in Mark 14, you see a young man naked, looking for Jesus. Look at the difference. I want to talk on this subject today: naked and afraid. Now, that’s what I want to discuss. Let 's talk about naked and afraid. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen that show, but it comes on the Discovery Channel. It’s a show where two people who have never met see each other for the first time, face to face, naked, and they’re given 21 days in the wilderness to see if they can survive. If my math is correct, I think we’re on about season 11 at the time of this message. Each of them is given a weapon; one is given a knife or machete, while somebody else has the ability to spark a fire. They each get one implement piece, but don’t miss this: two people who have never met come together, see each other for the first time naked, and are expected to stay together for 21 days to see if they can survive. Now, that may seem ridiculous to you because we live in 2020; we have all kinds of insecurities about our bodies. I bet you every one of us-no matter how fit you are-has something on your body you don’t like. You have something about you that you wish you could change. We all have these earthen vessels, and we all have this body that God gave us. It is what it is, and we work on it or we don’t. Some of it is the gene pool, DNA structure, what was passed down from parents: the color of your skin, the texture of your hair, the height you have, the height you don’t have. Whatever it is that you have, it was passed down to you, and you’ve been given this body. I’d like to bring about the idea that the first episode of naked and afraid was not the Discovery Channel’s idea. The first episode of naked and afraid took place when God put Adam into a deep sleep and pulled out of him «woe man.» She is called «woe man» because she was extracted from the womb of man. So God brings her out of Adam, and can you see them meeting each other for the first time? Adam has never seen a feminine physique; he has never seen a female body. The only thing he has ever seen in his life is wildlife and animals. He has become so comfortable with them that he has named all of them. He called the tiger what it is; he called the lion what it is; he called the eagle what it is. Even if it’s extinct now, Adam named it then. I want you to know that everything you name won’t last. Adam is in this thing called the garden, and he is with this thing called Eve. He is looking her up and down. Can you imagine the estrogen and hormones that are going back and forth in both of their bodies? Now, this woman is bone of his bones, and she is flesh of his flesh. Based on what they have seen the animals do for years, now they are procreating and soon will give us the first children on earth called Cain and Abel. The first reaction to sin happens after God says to them that they can eat of any fruit in the garden. Do you hear me? You can have anything in the garden except for the one in the middle of the garden, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Just like all of us-and don’t feel bad about it-they had a desire for that which was off-limits. So Eve goes, and she takes of the fruit. But this is what she does: she takes it to Adam. Notice that Eve has bitten the fruit, and nothing has happened. She has already tasted the fruit, and nothing has occurred. She has already had the conversation with the enemy, the serpent, and nothing has happened. But when he takes the fruit, she takes the fruit back home and gives it to Adam. The Bible says, «And he did eat.» Then, in Genesis chapter 2, verse 25, the next thing happens, and the Bible says that their eyes were opened. In Genesis chapter 2, they realized they were naked, and not only did they recognize they were naked; here is the keyword: they were ashamed. That word struck.
