I don’t have many points today; I only have one, and we’re talking about The Hunger Games. He says, «I want you to get me something.» He says, «I will get you something to eat; I’ll do it. I don’t have any problem with it. I’m your boy; we down like full flats. I’m with you—anything you need, I got you.» Have you ever heard this? «I got you; I’ll never turn my back on you.» I got you with friends. He says, «Yeah, I’ll do this for you, but watch this.» He says, «If you sell me your birthright.» Wait a minute, wait a minute, now that doesn’t imply that I have to sell you myself in order for you to help me. He says, «I got it; you gotta sell me a birthright.» Well, this is one of the things that we never discuss because we take this birthright conversation and we skip right over it. But what was the birthright? What was the birthright? What he was actually saying was, «Check this out, Jacob; you came out first, Esau, but here’s what I want to do: I want you to switch positions with me.» Esau says, «I want you to switch positions with me. I want you to allow me the birthright opportunity because if I get the birthright opportunity, I get the same, then I get father’s inheritance. If I get the birthright, then I receive judicial authority over our family, and then father’s inheritance goes to me.» So let me solve your temporary hunger so you can feed my eternal desire. You’ve got to make sure that you don’t sell your future for a little bit of present. Don’t miss what I just said: you can’t sell your future for a little bit of present. He sold everything that was coming to him because he didn’t know how to make it without what he didn’t currently have. Sometimes, you’ve got to go through hunger because God has a feast on the table. They that wait on the Lord—God has so much in the future waiting for you, and most of us have missed the future because we get full off the little morsel of the present. Sometimes, we’ve got to be hungry; sometimes you have to be unemployed in order to open the business. Sometimes, you have to lose the apartment in order to get the mansion. Sometimes, they have to take the Kia so you can get the Bentley. Don’t miss what I’m trying to say to you: if you don’t get fooled by your current hunger, you can understand that God has something waiting for you in the future that is a lot bigger than anything you will settle for in your present. That is the Hunger Game. The Hunger Game is designed to make you listen to your appetite and ignore your future. He is hungry, and he says, «I want you to get me something to eat.» You’ve got to understand that we don’t have to get to the New Testament to see Jesus. The Old Testament is actually more filled with salvific knowledge and history than the New Testament. You have types, shadows, and pictures, and this is actually one of those instances because now you see the elder brother having a discussion with the younger brother about being first. Isn’t it true that the scripture says the first shall be last, and the last shall be first? Isn’t it true that our elder brother, Jesus Christ, died for us—the younger brother who grafted us into the church? But as he is, his ways are not our ways, and his thoughts are not our thoughts. He does not have to change positions with us by being less than us; he actually brought us into him and engrafted us into him. Now we operate and dwell in the presence of the Lord, and it is in him that we live, it is in him that we move, and it is in him that we have our being. Here was the difference: the Bible says in verse 27—and I’m halfway done—the Bible says, «And the boys grew.» Don’t miss that; don’t miss that. Read it when you have time: the Bible says, «And the boys grew.» Now, the sin is the brevity of the statement: «And the boys grew.» That’s all it says. The boys didn’t mature; they just grew. The boys didn’t matriculate; they just grew. They extended, but they didn’t transfer. They just grew. If you go and watch the other scriptures, you’ll see that most times when the scripture talks about a person growing, they have a complementary coming. The Bible says that Samuel grew and waxed strong in the Lord. The Bible says in Luke that John grew and waxed strong in the Lord. You see, because they were growing in the physical and growing in the spiritual. But the Bible doesn’t say that about Jacob and Esau. The Bible says, «And the boys grew.» That’s all the Bible says; it doesn’t say that they matriculated in the things of God; it doesn’t say that they learned more or waxed strong. All they did was grow physically. Now I’m getting ready to talk to you about the Hunger Games because, in some instances, most of us have settled here; it is for extension and not evolution. In other words, we will stretch, but we will not change. They grew; they grew taller; they gained more weight; they probably gained a beard. But they will not know more in the things of…
