You come into an alignment season; your life will transform from «When is this ever going to happen?» to «God, I can’t believe all this is happening.» These shifts occur when you’re in alignment, and you’ll notice them happening quickly. However, I want to discuss alignment more pragmatically because it’s one thing to have this concept called alignment and get all spiritually excited about it—saying, «Oh my God, I want to be in alignment!» You can even post on Instagram, «I’m in alignment!» But what is it, and how do you genuinely access it? Can we have a real conversation about this? I don’t want us to just toss around clever cliches and slogans that get everyone excited without leading to meaningful change in their lives. I genuinely want to avoid that.
So, I decided to take the first part of this year to break down alignment week by week, so we can truly align with it and allow God to do what He wants to do in our lives. Is that fair enough? Cool! As I was praying to God, I realized that when you walk with Him long enough—and I promise I’m not trying to sound self-righteous—alignment becomes almost second nature. You feel uncomfortable when you’re out of alignment because alignment brings peace. When you aren’t in alignment, your peace is disrupted, which makes you want to pursue alignment.
Now, I’m going to take a brief digression, but I’ll return to the main point. You need to acknowledge both the presence of peace and the absence of peace in your life and circumstances. Peace is often connected to alignment, whereas the lack of peace is frequently connected to misalignment. I truly feel this—I urge you to stop investing in things where you lack peace. I wonder if I should delve a bit deeper into this. Please stop engaging in those situations. You will start to sense what God will use to guide you toward alignment; the fruit of peace is crucial. It’s actually a fruit of the Spirit, and if you don’t have peace regarding something, it doesn’t mean you should reject it entirely, but you certainly need to reconsider aspects of it. Peace is a sign of alignment; where there is chaos, it signifies misalignment.
For instance, if I dislocate my bone, it’s going to hurt. Why? Because it’s not properly aligned. If you’ve ever seen someone dislocate a joint while playing sports, you know they’re in serious pain. Then someone might say, «Hold on,» and they reset it. Yes, it hurts to fix it, but once it’s back in place, they feel fine again. I want you to pay attention to the situations in your life where you experience peace, and even more to those situations where you do not have peace. It could be that God wants to realign those issues, or perhaps in order to achieve alignment, you must let them go. Are we on the same page? Can I speak to you this way?
I believe that as we grow spiritually and engage in the disciplines I will discuss, finding alignment will not be the exception in your life; it will become the norm. When you are not in alignment, you are going to feel off. I sense the Holy Spirit prompting me. I need to focus on what disrupts my peace: people, business deals. In a moment, I will address you directly, but bear with me—people, business deals. I pay close attention and ask myself, «Why don’t I have peace?» Sometimes, something appears great on paper but is highly disruptive to your inner peace. You must pay attention to that. Don’t just dismiss it.
I’m not saying something unfamiliar is always negative. There’s a difference between the unfamiliar and discomfort. The type of discomfort I’m referring to is exemplified when God tells Abraham to leave his father’s house and country for a land He will show him. That instruction was awkward; He essentially said, «Leave your family and go somewhere unknown.» That’s uncomfortable to some degree. But Abraham’s act of going was not uncomfortable in the true sense; the instructions he was following were unfamiliar ground, which can feel uncomfortable. Yet the voice instructing him to go and empowering him was not uncomfortable.
Are you following me? What I’m getting at is that as you continue to grow in your relationship with the Lord, you’ll develop a better understanding of your instincts.
