Touré Roberts - The Supercharged Life

I want to talk to you today about the theme «The Supercharged Life.» The Supercharged Life. I want to draw your attention to Zechariah, chapter 4. We’re going to read verses 1-1, and we will discuss this idea of The Supercharged Life. I want to tell you how I came to this concept and what I wish to impart today. You see, we are people created in the image of God, which means we are truly powerful. Watch this: Without God, we have abilities, capabilities, and creative power that makes us really strong, even in His absence. This places us in a tricky situation at times because we can accomplish a lot, giving the illusion that we can do it without God’s help. Come on, religious folks—don’t stone me just yet; I’m going somewhere. There are indeed things we can accomplish in our own strength, right? Hello, somebody! We just get up and do it; we don’t pray about it or seek guidance. We just act, especially when we are gifted and talented. Do I have any gifted and talented individuals in the room right now? When you are gifted, it simply works; boom! You know what I mean? You just wake up, and it works. For example, if you can sing, you get up and—boom! If you’re like me, you’d be cursing up a storm instead of singing! But for some, if you can sing, you just get up and sing effortlessly, and it all sounds good. If you can dance, you just hear some music, and boom! You’re into it, while others wonder how you did that. Whatever it is you do, you do it naturally, and you’re amazing at it. The truth is that even if you don’t involve God in the process, you would still do well. Wow! Hello, somebody!

The challenge, however, is that there are some things in life that, no matter how strong or talented you are, will not get you to where you need to go. Do you follow what I’m saying? Sometimes we can become comfortable and lean on our own abilities until we encounter a situation that requires something greater than ourselves. Do you understand what I’m saying? So, I’ve been reflecting, and we’ve discussed many practical matters recently. They are great and powerful insights, but I don’t want us to lose sight of the fact that some things can only be accomplished by the hand of God. Yes, amen!

Let’s look at this briefly. I want to give you the context of what we’re about to read. This entire book, the book of Zechariah, is written by the prophet Zechariah. He details several encounters with an angel who brings him continuous and perpetual revelation. This angel is guiding him through various teachings about life, the kingdom, and more. This is where we find ourselves in the text: the angel is educating this man of God, awakening him to walk out the purpose and destiny assigned to his life. Are we together? That’s the backdrop. Now, I’m going to teach a lot today, so you have to stay with me. This is a teaching day because we’re going to build up, and it will all be good. You’re going to feel inspired, and lightbulbs will go off as suddenly things that didn’t work will start to work in your life because you will be aligned and shifted. It will be beautiful. So please stay with me; invest in yourself.

Now, the angel who spoke with me—Zechariah speaking—came back and woke me as a man who is awakened from his sleep. It’s interesting because it states that the angel came back and woke him, and then describes it as awakening from sleep. He didn’t say he was asleep; he was awake but not fully aware. The angel is teaching him, preparing to elevate his insight and understanding. As he engages him to reveal this truth, he has to wake him from his deeper slumber. What I’ve learned is that being awake on one level can be akin to sleep at the next level. I’m trying to get a few of you to catch what I’m saying: being awake at one level is like being asleep at the next level. The angel has been teaching him, enlightening him, and showing him many things. Everything is going well until he is prepared to take him to another level.
