Today, I want to talk about the power of belief. I know it sounds simple, but it’s much deeper than that. To believe is powerful, truly powerful. I want to read two passages of Scripture right off the bat—these are foundational scriptures. When you go home and study, you can revisit these passages. The first one is John 1, and we’ll read the first three verses there, then we’ll read verse 14. So, verses 1 through 3, and then we’ll skip to verse 14. These passages are foundational. Then we will read Romans 12:3. John 1 says, «In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.» In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. All things were manifest through Him, through the Word. It will make sense in a second. Without the Word, nothing was made that was made. In the beginning was the Word, and then the Word started making things, and everything that was made was made through the Word, right? Then, if we jump down to verse 14, it says, «And the Word became flesh.» So what was said became seen. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. I’m going to break that down, and then we’ll go over to Romans 12:3. These are foundational passages. It says, «For I say through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you: not to think of himself more highly than he ought to, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.»
So, Lord, I just thank You for this moment, for this gathering, and for Your people assembled here—the people that are watching via livestream, and those who will watch later. I thank You, God, that in this atmosphere, Your rich love will be palpable. God, You know every personality, every season, every situation, and every individual in this room. You know our unique needs, as well as the needs we can’t even articulate. I pray that in this service, You would reveal a solution to a problem we didn’t know we had and edify us, build us up. God, I pray that we wouldn’t leave here the same, but that we would leave sharpened, clear, and focused, with strategy for living and great breakthroughs. I thank You, as Your servant in this moment, for giving me the spirit of wisdom, revelation, knowledge, prophecy, insight, and all of heaven’s treasures and resources to communicate truths that empower and enlighten the people You love the most. I just thank You. I’m Yours. God, as we spend these few minutes together, we pray that by the end, we will leave richer and sharper. Where there was confusion, may there be clarity; where there was weakness, may there be strength; where there was doubt, may there be faith. We love You, we thank You, and we claim it done in Jesus' name. Amen.
All right, here we go. The first thing I want to do is highlight a truth hidden in Romans chapter 12, verse 3, that I really want us to unpack. You would miss that truth if you focus on the wrong things in this passage. This passage basically says not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought, and that God has dealt to every person a measure of faith. A lot of times, this scripture can be used to promote a sense of false humility. If you read it and put emphasis on the wrong things, you might think this passage is telling you not to think highly of yourself. The emphasis, however, is that you should think highly of yourself—this may not sound very spiritual, does it? No, you actually should think highly of yourself! In fact, the only reason the caution is there is that you should think highly of yourself, just not higher than you ought to.
I want to show you something about yourself that you may not know. In fact, it’s in Psalm chapter 8, verses 4 and 5. There is something you should know about yourself; I believe God has been trying to communicate this from the beginning of humanity. Understanding your identity and perspective about yourself is everything because it determines how you will engage in life and what you will expect from it. I want to show you something that, in my belief, is truly a correction. If we look at Psalm 8, I want you to check these verses out. If you were exposed to the third night of the revival service in Denver, you already know this, but I want to…
