Toure Roberts - Build for the Flood

I want to talk today about this idea, and it’s really a command built for the flood. I want to share my heart before delivering this message. I am obsessed with ensuring that you know what’s going on. I am obsessed with making certain that you are equipped and prepared for the age and stage we are in because these are very serious times—very serious times. How you posture yourself now and how you build now is everything. There is a lot of noise—noise that you can resonate with and noise that you can’t. There’s just a lot of noise, and it has never been more important for you to hear the voice of the Lord, the voice of the Lord, so that you can receive the instruction about what you are supposed to be building right now. You’re not building just to build. God didn’t create you to build whatever you want. You are His blueprint, and you have blueprints. There is something you are supposed to build in your generation that no one else can build but you. No one has the materials, no one has the unique perspective, no one has the unique grace, and no one has the unique favor but you.

My approach to preaching—whether here, in Dallas, or wherever I go—is not to find something easy to preach. No, let me find what God is saying. If this were my last time with you, then give me the word for you in this season, so much so that it would sustain you forever. I’ll give you another insight: When I preach, I pursue, with the same intentionality and intensity, revelation that will build you, just as I would seek revelation to build my children—two of whom are sitting right there. I love you on that level because you’re my Father’s kids, and we have the same Daddy. I have a call, a charge, and an assignment. God brought me out of the dust and gave me a great responsibility.

So, I say all that to explain that this message may lack some of the sermonic structure you’re used to. It may not have three points and a poem. I might not start with a really fun story that captures attention and then a big bang at the end. It may not have that, but it will be the voice of the Lord, and it will be what God is saying to you today. If you listen and take heed, you’ll be better, stronger, wiser, more powerful, and you’ll leave here with clarity, equipped for things coming your way that you didn’t even know were approaching.

I want to pray, and then we’re going to dive into this message to see what God does. We’ll figure out if we can wrap it up around 5 or 6 o’clock tonight, and maybe we can go across the street to Blendo’s for dinner.

Father, not my will but Yours be done. I thank You for Your rich and radical love for these, Your sons and daughters here in Your house today. God, I feel the weight of this responsibility. I feel it every time I open my mouth to speak to Your people. God, I’m not playing with Your people because You’re not playing with Your people, and You’re not playing with me. So, let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight. God, I thank You for the spirit of wisdom, revelation, insight, knowledge, and prophecy, and for full access to the hidden mysteries of Heaven that I might be a dispenser of truth. May the words that proceed from my mouth be Your words, taking root and bearing fruit so that we would never be the same again. I pray this in the matchless name of the Christ who makes it all possible. Every foe and every weapon formed against us has been demolished and destroyed in Him. In Jesus' name, I pray. Genesis chapter 6—if I can just keep you standing for a minute— I know you’re ready, but just do this for me; sometimes it works. Genesis chapter 6, verses 8-22. «Build for the flood» is the topic, and I almost—I’ll literally show you the subtitle without knowing they would be there. Can you see that? Well, «Something Is Coming» is the subtitle. I put it there not knowing, and they said, «You must be up to something.» Just turn to your neighbor and say, «Something is coming.» Here’s the thing: I don’t say that to scare you, and I really don’t. Because if you are in covenant, you should never be afraid. God will not allow anything to happen on the earth to those who are in covenant that will not, somehow, cause it to work together for good. Are you hearing me? It is important for you to walk in covenant, and it is important for…
